  • Hello Austen,
    I hope you are well.
I am new to this site as.of yesterday and
I have been recommended to send you a message and being new to this site can not see (on my phone) where to email you directly. Would this be an appropriate means of asking your advice? Many thanks Jodi
    Hi Austen
Just to say another thanks to you and your Dad (who I met today when I picked up my vcu)
We had a lovely journey up from sunny south Wales and it was well worth it.
Would like to wish you all the best in the future and will highly recommend your services.
    Thanks very much.
    Gavin.
Austen,I am experiencing the same problem as angeloc, was back in march 2013. The car is vibrating quite badly at speeds between 55 - 70 and also from 75 upwards. I have been trying to diagnose the problem and thought it might be VCU/drive shaft related. Then last week my wife noticed that on full lock in reverse it had started making a serious knocking noise, I think that this is defo VCU, but would like a second opinion and also would this cause the vibration? If the answer is yes, how much can you supply a recon vcu for?ThanksAndy
    Hi Austen,
I'm re-racing the IRD input mainshaft of my V6 MY01 FL in Australia.
Would you consider sharing with me the secret to setting the correct preload via the shim under the outer bearing cup?

I am guessing that it is a preload condition because of the need to progressively tighten the end cover bolts to avoid damaging the tapered rollers. I am unable to find any reference to the method of setting it prior to assembly.

    Regards
    Glen

I hope you dont this this is a cheek pm ing you on a Sunday but if I understand correctly you are Bell Engineering. If so I need some help (Paid!) I have to drive to Gatwick on Tuesday and am experiencing a vibration - I think from the Propshaft (TD4 Freelander). I need to change the VCU as it is tightening and have noticed that one of the rubber hangers has quite a bit of movement in it - I think the prop is wobbling about and causing what seems like wheels out of balance in the rear. Is this feasable. If so how are you fixed for me driving from Carmarthen, West wales to you on route to Gatwick on Tuesday for you to fit a recon VCU and hangers? - I am not flying until Weds but need to be in the Travelodge in the late afternoon. If its not possible no problem we have another car so will use that and then get in touch on my return from holidays. (I only need to get to Gatwick and back so ot using it on holiday) Cheers Angelo
    Hi Austen.
I fitted a David Beaumont supplied "loose" VCU to my wife's late '99 Freelander 1 only in October and guess what on snow today no drive to rear and front wheels spinning.
I don't expect any help from DB although I will be on the 'phone to them in the morning ,so need to replace again.
I'm over in SW Ireland .
Could I ask the price of a recon VCU inc shipping to Co. Kerry and if there is a surcharge for the return of the old one ?
To say I'm disappointed is an understatment and I did have some reservations at the time but ..................
I went on a recommendation from the Landy 4x4 site .
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards
    Don Mavor
