Anyone ever fitted a new turbo-intercooler pipe into a TD5 converted 1991 defender?
My defender 110 is a 1991 chassis with a newer TD5 engine (65k miles). Last weekend I suffered from a loss of power, accompanied by alot of white smoke out the exhaust. I have not been encoutering any overheating problems, so thought it a bit sudden to be the head gasket going. It doesn't smoke when ticking over, and not much smoke can be seen when you rev the engine (probably not the turbo?). My current thought is that possibly the turbo to intercoller pipe, which has been 'knocked up' with some fexible piping and clips has perished and is causing the problem - it certainly feels very thin and maleable.
Any views on whether this makes logical snese? Secondly, does anyone know of a more robust piping solution (should this be the cause)?
Any help much appreciated.
