Coolant leakage from engine block.

Hi,

I am new to this forum and hope that someone has any clue regarding my coolant leakage.
I have a 1968 series land rover 2.25 diesel that leaks coolant from the small 4mm holes in the engine block on the left side.
The holes are "man made" and the front one is situated just behind the alternator (see red arrow in attached picture), roughly at the same height as the drain tap.
My first thought was that these holes were some kind of drainage from the cylinder head bolt holes so I replaced the cylinder head gasget but that did not help.

What are those holes for? There are no plugs or threads what i can feel and they are far to small to be core plugs.

Thanks in advance for any advice how to solve the leakage issue!

Wow! Not seen those before. I'll take a look at a 2286 I've in the yard tomorrow, see if I can find them on it.

Are there 4 holes and definitely coolant not oil?, they’re not on the 5mb but there are bigger ones on my engine on other side, think my 200di has some but sealed off with silicon poss on other side
Can you stick a wire in see how deep they go, looks like they’re angled down?
Weeping and not squirting?

The two litre diesel had them holes and they are tell tale holes for the liner seals, not sure if the 2.25 are the same?

Thanks for the quick response!
It is coolant not oil. The depth of the holes is about 10mm and I would say that they are drilled perpendicular to the block.

It is weeping about one drip every second.

The thesis that it is tell tales sounds logic.

The car had a rough life here in Sweden and have been laying in pieces for 15 years behind a barn. I assume that errors like a bad liner seal could be due to that.

Changing cylinder lining seals is a big job...

Are there engine rebuild businesses there? Perhaps for farm vehicles or commercial vehicles? Time to invest in the future.

Hmmm, rad seal could be a temporary solution. It would be nice driving some miles this summer after spending hours and hours welding rust, fixing wire harness, exhaust, searching for various parts, looking for bolts in a rusty old bucket, etc, etc.
Lets go and get some bar leaks...

K seal is the kiddy, radweld and barleaks are pretty crap.
