Alright,

Names Luke, 35, lincolnshire and I’ve got a discovery 2 td5.

Bought it sept 2023, was in a poor state and falsely lead to believe it wasn’t as bad as it was. Had no recourse so just cracked on to get it a fresh MOT, roll around 1.5 years later and probably like 6 grand up the screek! It was finally in the best shape ever, rebuilt both axle, new turbo, PAS pump, pipes, all sorts and a metric tonne of welding in ALL, yes ALL the normal D2 places… all at once. Someone had bodged the heck out of it before, to hide the true state but oh well too late now.

Well fast forward to today, I was doing the last piece of welding in the drivers side rear quarter/boot floor as it has rotted on the spot welds. this was the last welding I had to do and then put it back together internally, take for MOT and chill with a beer. Nope, not on friday the 13th.. I left a dirty rag on the rear axle below, it caught fire and the entire body has burned to a crisp… I’ll make a thread tomorrow and show you guys but the bright side is, the engine, auto box, transfer, front axle/brakes/tyres, rear brake discs, pads, calipers and the rear axle all look good. the rear axle has some melted body mount on it lol but that can be cleaned.

I’ve lost my mig welder, gloves, helmet, grinder, henry hoover(£60 ebay bargain that i fixed 4 years ago, very annoyed) and both my kids child’s seat.. oh and my nanocom and prob other bits lol.

Yes so this is me, luke, with my burnt out td5… yay! woop woop, at least there was no corrosion anymore! :/
(will post pics soon in a thread)

also yes i lurked for the entire time and i’m also unsure what to do now.
