L322 2008 3.6.........problem here in Italy...have had 'suspension fault. use normal height only' for weeks. Yesterday it started ok and within a mile of home it started wallowing and bouncing on rough white road. Suspension Failure came on and I stopped and sure enough the whole car had dropped to what I assume are bump stops. Question ? anyone had experience with compressor repair kits - washers, seals etc ? I would rather spend £50 on this sort of kit than over 1000euros to replace compressor etc etc in nearest main dealer. Sounds mean I know, but the old girl is getting on now and after 20years of really superb usage I am at that horrible point of maybe throwing a lot of money at her and not really getting value. Any thoughts will be greatly apreciated. Thanks

This might sound like a sh**y response, it's not meant that way but you need to help us to help you.

What have you done in these weeks to start to diagnose the issue? What codes are you getting for this? There are a lot of interlinked dependancy systems that can cause these faults, without any meaningful diagnostic you're going to waste a lot of time and money playing "parts darts".

At this point it's similar to saying "My car doesn't go anywhere, do you know why?"

The information message on the dashboard is simply that, it's a driver message centre not a diagnostic tool. You can do some basic sanity checks with things like the 4x4 display as you can see your perceived wheel heights and steering angle but that's about all you can do.

I'd doubt very much that a worn compressor would cause it to drop to the bump stops, if you've got normal height then you must have air to keep it up there. And yes, Kermit is right, slow height change would be the one I'd expect to see or the "vehicle will raise when compressor cools"

If it's dropped to the stops it could well be a leak or a height sensor issue (particularly wiring to the height sensor is a favourite). Usually you'll get ABS/Traction Control issues if it can't talk to the suspension as they're all linked through the Terrain Response so it's probably not that. Height sensor issues can cause those faults too if the RLM shuts down. I'd be listening for the compressor and subsequently for air leaks if you have no diagnostic equipment and then I'd invest in some diagnostic equipment.

Great response, I definitely asked for that one.........!
Truth be told, I have done nothing about it for weeks. Head in sand etc.
So much wrong with the old girl, all interlinked. Air Conditioning stopped a year ago, took it to main dealer who twice refilled the gas and came up with 'haven't got a clue mate' or Italian equivalent....so had a long very hot summer without it.
Then in December the local refurbished petrol station, on the day it reopened, managed to put 68lits of diesel in the tank, except they had not cleaned out their storage tanks during refit and I got 5lits of diesel and 63 lits of water.... Back to main dealer, insurance row and finally got it back late feb. Within days the fuel guage started to be erratic. Periodic warning of water in the fuel still comes and goes. The main 4x4 display just vanished and hasn't been seen since. The suspension fault warnings started and would come on for about a minute and settle down for the journey, mainly local. Yesterday it finally gave up, luckily half a mile from home, but boy what a sod to get it down the last half mile on our local heavily rutted white road, took nearly an hour !!
So, I digress. I need to at least get a diagnostic tool.....any suggestions? (Apart from where the local scrap yard is !!!)
Thanks again........appreciated.

Many people like gap iid which i think covers your car. I have sdd on my laptop which so far has done everything i need from it including removing/adding keys. Again, believe it covers your car. Sdd needs a learning curve to get the best from it
