Hi, new member here, juts brought a 1988 LR 90 and I'm looking for a suitable general repairer in the Birmingham area to assist with the maintenance (I can do some basic maintenance myself) , not all garages have the knowledge or want a 90 on their ramps, so looking to see if anyone here knows somebody in Birmingham they could recommend please

Maybe that helps

not all garages have the knowledge or want a 90 on their ramps,
A 90 has to be one of the most simple and easiest vehicles to maintain in the past 50 years. Pretty much any garage should be able to do 90% of the jobs on one. Very few specialist tools needed either.

That may be true. But plenty of places don’t want to work on them because they are heavy and dirty, when I first got mine my long trusted family garage said they wouldn’t swap the clutch on it because it was too heavy a job. Also at that age you need to actually be a mechanic rather than plugging the computer in and replacing what it tells you.

Thanks, yes that has been my problem, local garage I've used for years just said they don't work on them. Happy to do anything else for my van but not my LR.

I agree and there will be lots I can and will do but sometimes you need a garage to do some stuff you just can't do yoursef

On a Land Rover the age of yours I am not sure I agree with that. There should be nothing you cannot do yourself. On my above example I borrowed an engine crane and did the clutch myself when they said they wouldn’t do it. First time I did the timing belt it cost me more in tools than the quote I got from the garage but have done about 8 of them since! As mentioned above you don’t need special tools for this vintage of Land Rover. So really there is nothing a competent home mechanic can’t tackle or quickly learn to tackle.
The question is far more of do you want to rather than can you!
