This is the flow out of the drain plug with the hose in the top pipe - I couldn't turn the pressure up very high because it would just blow back out the top.

I gave the bleed pipe a good blow from the rad side, and I could hear the bubbles in the expansion tank

That look like a restricted flow ...

Take the rad off and lay it flat on the floor and do the same flush ...

It was a bit rusty coloured at first, then eventually ran clear.
I'll take the rad off tomorrow - is it a pain to get out?

No it's actually quite easy, 2 bolts at the top and 2 at the bottom then it slides up and out. You need to take the fan off

Did you remove & test the thermostat at any point ? Also it's possible to get the two smaller pipes on the wrong ports, which does affect the coolant flow.

They are slightly different sizes

I'm sure the pipe from the radiator to the expansion is correct because I can blow through it and hear bubbles, hopefully that means the other pipe is in the right place too

You disconnect from the radiator and the other end goes to the expansion filler neck. You shouldn't be blowing bubbles, it should be clear

Pardon the stupid question, but where is the bolt on the driver side of the radiator?

There's one on the passenger side (although it won't come free because the nut is spinning freely - any tips?), but I can't see one on the driver's side.
I hope I'm interpreting RAVE correctly in thinking that the mounting bolts should be on the bottom side (10):

I loosened the clip and pushed the hose back slightly, that's where the drip is coming from

Any leaks will cause issues because the system needs to be under pressure (about 10-15psi) to prevent the coolant boiling.

Drained from the plug on the bottom

Didn't get anywhere today unfortunately, couldn't get the bolt on the rad to loosen without the nut going with it. There's always something small in the way!

Try again tomorrow
