Hi All,
I'm new to the forum.
I recently bought a Series III 1979 land rover which had a V8 conversion done by York Performance in 1991.
The engine is registered on the V5 as a 3.9L.
I was of the understanding this is a Rover V8 engine but the engine number looks odd and not aligned with the alpha/numeric format I've seen on various registers for Rover V8 engines, It's "YPE 020293", which is also shown on the V5.
Any thoughts on how I can identify this engine?
Thanks.

Could be a recon. unit from an engine re-manufacturer who has over-stamped their own ID #
Thanks norseman. That makes sense, specially as the conversion was done by York Performance (Engineering?), and the code is YPE020293. I believe they are no longer around to find out any further history.
Without an engine number anyone know how I can identity it for parts compatibility, gaskets etc.?
