The factory parking sensors on our our Freelander 1 were not working.
I could only hear a ticking noise from two of them so ordered two replacements.
I have now fitted the two new sensor but now the reversing sensors work if the engine isn't running.
However if the engine is running I get an initial beep for maybe half a second followed by a lower continuous tone.
Why would whether the engine is running or not make a difference?

Two more sensors arrived today from Rimmer Bros and I fitted them, so now all four sensors are new.
The thing is, with ignition on but engine not running, the system sort of works, but the middle ones do sod all.

oh, and ignition on it works
ignition on and connected to another vehicle that's running with jump leads, it works
engine running, doesn't work

It's very strange

Do the sensors plug in independently to the module? If so does the issue follow the sensor or where they are plugged into. Try just one sensor at a time. Maybe a damaged cable that's picking up interference, you could try oscilloscope on the sensors

I now have this working and I believe I know what happened.
Rimmer Bros sell two sensors.

YDB500311PMAP which has a right angle connector, and which Rimmers sold me as the "outer" sensors.
YDB500301PMAP which has a straight connector, and which Rimmers sold me as the "inner" sensors.

As you saw in my videos above, the inner ones do nothing.

Yesterday I went visit Andy who sells Freelander parts in High Wycombe to try a replacement parking ECU; made no difference.
He also kindly loaned me some sensors that he had sitting around, so with one of his and one of mine that I had previously removed, I now have a complete working set.

So, YDB500311PMAP from Rimmers is a good part, and works. YDB500301PMAP isn't.

I called Rimmer customer services and said that they are no good and so I want to send them back.

They said that because I have fitted them to try them that I can't just get a refund. They have to send them back to the manufacture under warranty for inspection and if they don't work then they will send me two new ones. Which I don't want.

Anyone from Rimmers on this forum? This terrible customer service and probably contrary to sale of goods act.
