Hello,

I have an intermittent SRS light On / Off on my Discovery 2 2004.

I checked under the driver's seat (LH) and see photo attached, there is one "loose conector".

Does anybody know if that black connector should be connected "somewhere"?

Thanks!

No, that doesn't look intermittent at all. It isn't connected to anything so cannot be the problem.
If you don't have a diagnostic, look at the yellow connectors under each seat. The wires to them are very thin and the connectors are rubbish. If a wire is broken you would be better off bypassing the connector.
Apart from that it could be the red connector for the steering wheel airbag. which is under the steering column and recognisable by the fact that the wires go into yellow ducting. Simply disconnecting it then reconnecting it may help, it did mine. I then used a cable tie to put it in a more secure place.
Apart from that there is the rotary coupling.
Whatever you do, disconnect the battery before messing around with all this, you don't want any of the charges going off.

Thanks for the reply.

1) The SRS light on the dash does go off from time to time. But then, after a while, comes back on.

2) The space is very tight - do I need to take the front seats out to check these cables / connectors?

3) Apart from the yellow connector, there is a black one in the picture that is loose. Does that need to be connected somewhere?

4) I could not find pictures or electrical on the Workshop Manual - what keywords do I search to learn more about this?

Thanks again!

I did find this harness image on the web that is supposed to be from a Discovery 2 2004.

Where / How can I identify all these connectors?

Thanks for any help / pointers :)

Cheers

to answer your questions point by point:
1/ This is quite common and reflects the make/break nature of connectors. Or maybe wire(s) broken within their insulation. Often it is down to a bit of corrosion.
2/ Yes it is tight, I have always managed to manage to fix the wires under the seats by using choc blocks. Others solder the connections. But if you are bulkier than me it might be tricky. If you want to take the seats out then you have to disconnect the connections that are problematic which doesn't help.
3/ I have no idea what the black plug is for it might be for something that your car doesn't have such as electric seats or heated seats. Don't worry about it.
4/ I don't know which workshop manual you mean, the RAVE manual is very comprehensive, but I don't know my way around it as well as @sierrafery
But it you have checked all the things I have mentioned and are still having problems then you need to get a diagnostic like a Foxwell or a Nanocom if you have more money!

Thanks for all the replies. I do have heated AND electric seats. And also have a CD changer.

This is LHD car - the photo I took is from the driver's side. The CD Changer is on the passenger side.

I will run Nanocom this afternoon and post more info.

Meanwhile, I am trying to get my hands on an electric wiring manual. The one I have is called "Workshop Manual" (see photo attached).

Thanks again!

I REALLY, really would ignore the plug that is plugged into nothing, it doesn't have any bearing on your intermittent SRS light.

Have you done what I suggested re the SRS connections to both the airbags and the seatbelt tensioners?
Your Nanocom should point you in the direction of which one it is, even my lowly Foxwell was able to tell me that mine was the driver's airbag.

Hi, the SRS light can have multiple reasons you have to read the fault code instead of digging in blind, under the seats or dash the only relevant connectors for that light are yellow or red, that black plug is unused

...er, as you know from my previous thread or posts. The connector for the driver's airbag is red, you put up the pic of it!! But the wires do go into yellow conduit or ducting.
But I agree, as you know, that he will have to read the fault to find out which of the three items are the problem, or the connector to it.

Agreed, diagnostic read is the way to go but does anyone know if the warning light flashes in sequence ?
I recall X-Type Jags had a flash sequence that indicated which circuit.
Slightly OT I know, just curious.
