Hi all,

I was just wondering what’s the adjustment on a LR series 3 fuel sender unit?

my gauge works ok it’s just when set it I’ve left a bit to much in the tank when it reads empty. it’s the britpart sender unit with 2 rods that you set yourself.

Does anyone have a factory adjustment length or a reference to go off?

If fitted with a genuine tank and a fuel level sensor you shouldn’t need to do any thing regarding adjusting the sensors float.
Perhaps find out how much fuel is left when the gauge hits Red, and then decide on the amount of fuel for a reserve u are happy with.🤔
Have I tried the international forum… Google, its a good question and so hopefully get a suitable answer on the rod lengths

With my disco, the owners book states 9 litres when the yellow dash lamp illuminates, so if I slow down I will have have to go and find a petrol station with in 36 miles, difficult on some motorways but I did it once at 30miles 😀

My 88 tank reads full with anything over six gallons in the tank, but doesn't have a reserve when the gauge hits zero.
I've been meaning to fix it for the last ten years or so.
The very annoying diesel low fuel warning light died a good while ago, not sure whether I should bother fixing it
 
So as soon as the gauge is touching zero you could be in trouble ? Better to have at lease a gallon left.

Any dash indicator is depending on the fuel sensor functioning correctly, so may be just finding break in a wire feeding it, a little job for u on a nice sunny day 😊

I want it so I have a small amount in it when it’s getting low like my D1. However now when it read empty I’m going to say I’ve got just under 1/4 tank still left lol
 
Maybe ask on forum is any one has used the Britpart kit and how they did there must try and see.

Maybe as a suggestion, with an empty tank, and if it can be done, empty the tank and fit the sensor on its lowest setting in the tank, than slowly refill the tank measuring the litres until the gauge moves off zero, that will give you the aprox amount left in the tank at zero.
If you wish slightly more fuel move the sensor higher, add more fuel until the gauge moves from zero .

I was having a think about it last night and that is exactly what I’m going to do!

Empty tank
Put exactly 10L in (apparently same as 90 200tdi) which is close enough to series
Put the sender unit in and see when it starts to float on top
Tighten up from there!

You can't do that, it's FAR too sensible!
How about the traditional method of just slapping everything together and driving until you run out of fuel.
Make sure that you don't carry any spare fuel in the vehicle, then you can enjoy a nice bracing walk to the nearest filling station.
After this has happened a few times, you'll get a rough idea of how far you can drive once the gauge has hit empty.
 
I gave up trying to get my sender and gauge to work accurately and reset the milage every time and work off that instead. Mine seems to use 3/4/ of a tank from full to the 3/4 mark on the gauge and then the last quarter of a tank is covered by the last 3/4 of the guage. but when the gauge shows empty it is empty, and will stop and need the system rebleeding (diesel)
