Excessive smoke?

Just a little update, replace MAF with new one now and it's miles better. Still a little smoke and the turbo whistle seems to be a little louder. So thinking might be a very small hole somewhere along the turbo hoses or maybe the clamps aren't "clamping" good enough.

Don't know if I'll be able to afford a full set at the minute, so might replace one at a time. They all look knackered anyway!

They aren’t too expensive tbh I got some DPH in black full set for £70

check under where the intercooler hose be close to a bolt head ..
it can rub 'n cause a small hole / split ..
see orange arrow / text in attached pic.

Thanks hd3, I've already checked there, don't have a bolt there (one of the previous owners lost it) there is some rubbing from when it was there but definitely no hole.

Hi everyone I know there are a few posts on this but just need to ask anyway.

Have lots of black smoke coming out of the TD4 (2005 facelift model), now I know it's usually the turbo that causes this but it wasn't doing this before I refurbed the injectors and replaced the the glow plugs.

Was hoping it was just a bit of gunk that was being burned off because the injectors were running better. But it seems to be getting worse and car is starting to feel like it's losing some power. Smoke doesn't smell oily or diesely more like when your cleaning out the open fire chimney in your house!

I have the same problem with my FL1 auto facelift and I expect your're pretty ****ed off too. In the past couple of weeks it puffed a bit of smoke while it changed gears. In the last 20 days it starting puffing a lot more and a local mechanic told me to add a bottle of Tunap to the fuel which I did. Within a day it started puffing out loads of black smoke - more so when I stuck my foot down. I got it a guy to run a diagnostic on it and it came up 'low air flow' and 'over pressurising' what ever that means (google translated him). He said that the EGR needs cleaning wich I did, but it still smoked. I've run it with and without the MAF but it's the same. Also had the injectors checked which were done Nov 2022 and they're in -2...+2 range. But obviously it's overfuellng. I've seen cars smoke before, but not like this. The power varies and the gear changes are not smooth. It smokes in both low and high revs and nobody has any idea.

Have you manually as in hands on checked all the hoses from and to intercooler

Mine turned out to be the injectors weren't tightened properly now only has a slight puff of smoke on hard acceleration which I think is the egr and associated parts as they are covered in crap.

Thanks Mate. The injectors are ok. Just had the EGR blanked and inlet manifold cleaned - it was sooted like hell. Now it goes like hell but still smoking. The guy says run it a few days and see if it clears up???

Yes mate. Run it for over an hour at 2000-3000rpm. And I'm in Montenegro and it's red hot 38 deg every day and I'm trying to build apartments!!!!.
