yeah, I'm not sure where it all came from though because it has quite a good inline fuel filter fitted? previous owner might of put that on after he realised crud was getting into the carb though.

Great job. It might be worth draining the fuel tank and checking the fuel pick up pipe still has the brass gauze filter on the end.

i've figured out the bulk of the problem. took the carb apart today and discovered that the little fuel strainer just after the fuel inlet was completely blocked. as well as a lot of varnished old fuel and rust in the float. i've cleaned it out...
