Pretty basic stuff, have a look at the You tube. Several video's on "how to" also showing the different kits available. Good one's by Britannica restorations ltd. As above do some free practice before making actual ones. What year is your Landy?

The transfer box drives the propshafts (a shaft or both, depending if it is locked or open, or none if in neutral). The propshaft drives the differential, the differential drives the wheels. To spin a propshaft (therefore) you need to spin a...

I’ve got a roof tent and awning so me and the dear lady wife just go easy at the jiggy jiggy. I also put two Land Rover jacks in the two back cross member holes to stop it rocking so that other campers don’t become concerned
  • tottot
The crank pulley is bigger than the alternator pulley, so the alternator will reach 4k well before the engine does.. at a guess 1500-2000 engine rpm? Pure guess
  • tottot
Yes, 14.2 is more like it. However A more powerful alternator that helps when you have heavy load items in use much of the time like winch doing a job like log hauling or playing in a winch challenge. At other times in every day running say...

I've just seen, voltage set point 13.8v That's too low for a modern battery?
  • tottot
Looking pretty good in that pic, must have been a good underseal [plenty of rubbish ones about] Truck may have been a sales demonstrator or something like that to account for date.
  • tottot
you can swap the hand of the alternator by simply undoing the three or four very long screws pulling them out rotating the ends of the alternator in relation to each other refitting the screws and tightening them up
  • tottot
The above only works if you hold the clutch pedal down while doing it.

Known issue with R380 box is issues with 5th gear bearing, a change of oil may help in the short term.

I have done this conversion now, it wasn`t straight forward. If anyone wants to do this rather than fitting a discovery axle here is what i did. First problem was the a-frame fulcrum (the part the ball joint is pressed into) was out of line with...

Have your gear box's had oil changes in that time?
  • tottot
The oil is the gearbox can be(is) red/pink to start with as it is a Transmitssion Fluid (often ATF/Dexron III). When water mixes with oil it emulsifies and turns in a creamy colour/consistency. The gearbox does have a breather which can (in...

Has it been left outside some time? If so the ports on that engine/turbo have been open to atmosphere and done no good. You know Land Rovers and axles and gearbox may be usable, however value is as @Dippypud says in the chassis.

By the looks of it nothing is going to work, (engine, gearbox, axles )and the only thing going for it is a galv chassis and a log book.

Count the teeth, if they’re the same number the intermediate gears should mesh well. Transfer boxes with the large intermediate pin, suffix B/C onwards had two ratios. 2.354:1 as standard and also a rare option of 2.888:1 that matched that of...

^^ beat me to it! These vehiels were not "concourse" when they left the factory. I would go far more with the usable, reliable, and tidy rather than perfect. if you make it perfect you will not want to use it properly. When I rebuilt my series...

Doing the above is not good for the alternator and can result in damaging the voltage regulator.
  • tottot
Once running a TDI will keep going as long as there is enough volts for the stop solenoid.
  • tottot
To check. Use a multimeter set in dc volts across battery terminals will tell if alternator is still working. It may be the bit that cuts the power to the dash charge lamp has quit. Engine on [and rev it a bit] and off. See if it agrees with your...

Should settle after a couple of adjustments. Has yours got the square hole in the bracket for a half inch tommy bar to lever on to set tension?
