I am using 15wxx (i think 50) oil. Is it worth rebuilding this and running it with a thicker oil? That seems to help solve a lot of issues for people experiencing piston slap. Especially since my PSI readings are all fine and dandy. Thoughts?

hm, yes. i agree. The thing i am mostly aiming for is that it laterally ticks the same spot every time? thus making that score. or is that a bit of a wishfull thinking kinda thing... Since maybe that means it should ALSO be on the other side.

Ok, clear on the honing. Anything regarding the slap/marks? am i correct, or are those due to something else.

ahh ok, then i got my story straight. For compression i dont really need it rn. Running enough. Just that darn knock.... Heres what i THINK is a good plan (advice if it aint) ;) The manual states a piston bore clearance of .063 mm with piston...

id buy those in a heartbeat; if theyd solve my problem! what would a honing tool add/solve in this instance that right now is a problem? not stubborn, just curious!

ring gaps equally split...? What do you mean exactly with that? That their openings are staggered and not in line with each other on the piston? Black marks no not really, scoring stripes yes. marks no. No i have not honed the bores, i havent...

thats my fingerprint and i took the rings off to test the clearance between tbe piston and the bore by taking it out and outting it in inverted like the manual says

not the best i know but still gets me 100 psi plus. havent ran this engine much so i hoped it would wear itsself in a bit since i gave it new rings.

gents, i found SOMETHING. if its the thing were looking for id like to check rn. cil 4, score mark which alligns with the skirt of the cillinder. hard to see but there is a longitudional line and a little hourglass shaped mark on the piston...

noted... will check. Good one to have. i think what i have is best described as a knocking sound no? All, another idea to get the crankshaft to go operating rpms. Would an impact drill with an appropriate bit get it to spin over fast enough to...

hm, appreciate the way of thinking about the problem solving aspect. I have the sump off still, so that would give me good acces to check the clearances of the skirts. More info soon. Thanks again.

agree. Im quite certain that it aint the gb after i listened with the stetoscope. No it has never been checked! that should mean its piston slap only on 1 piston...? right? I did check the tolerances of one piston i recall and it was on the...

Update: Worked on it. Checked the cam first. No flat spots. it is a bit worn, but nothing really out of the ordinary i would say. Its all pretty even and its all pretty consistent. Fitted everything back together and put the starter up to it...

All, another slight update on my “drill testing” method. i want to illustrate how i do this, and how i have now isolated what i think is a root cause of the problem. 1. insert tapped guide, push wheel and tapped in designated hole. fit grub...

Oops thought it was oil pump, but try with oil pump skew gear and dizzy out first, On the rollers you can get flat spots but not as Loud as your knock more a tap But knock is twice as fast as a single valve operating unless it’s banging top and...
