Welcome. Top hose should be hotter than the bottom hose, it shows the rad is working.
Do you have a fan, is the heater core blocked, air lock maybe.
Is it actually getting hot or is it just the temp gauge telling you it's hot?
I have test run engines mounted to nothing just hanging suspended form a crane. So mounted to the chassis and then Using the crane to take the weight and keep level will
Be no problem at all.
Engines usually sit on the sump when on the ground so we’ll strong enough to be used with mountings, some 3/4 ply or short plank with jack or axle stand if clearance ok underneath would be fine
Been to two post offices in last week to get mine tax exempt , both said they can’t find historic tax on the screen, after about 5mins exasperated I said I know why it’s not working ….. it’s because the post office computer systems are not very...
I had a gear missing before too. A bolt came out inside the gearbox, it came out when draining the oil. The bolt tightens a clamp inside, its been so long at least that's what I think happened in my case. I could look up the proper name tomorrow...
There was just a hair of space behind what was the cone. I was able to take a solid measure, it matched Wikipedia's entry. I'll report back when machinist is done. (lathe I assume)
Edit: 04-12-24, I have run out of freetime, pinion is still at...
You have not yet removed the old inner race, it is where the race sits you have to measure. If it is as I think the case that the race spun and friction welded itself to the shaft there will be "fit" issues.
This may have removed some of the...
All the Britpart lift pumps we have fitted leak through the thread for the inlet and outlet pipes, I wrap the threads in ptfe tape (rightly or wrongly)
Hi everyone first of all i want to thank everyone who has been helping me out with my problem I have finally found the problem 🙄I replaced all of the pipe work still had air coming in from some where. I put a small rap of ptfe tape on the inlet...
I rebuilt mine last year, you can buy relatively complete rebuild kits and its not rocket science but you will need a press. Some larger parts are sometimes unavailable so it really depends on what is wrong with it.
Nicks land rover excellent site well written plenty of pics , if I need to work on my od I’ll have a close look at how he did it

Also a link from above will lead you here...
I'd drain the od unit oil, looking for bits. Then the transfer box for the same. I haven't yet rebuilt an od (although I have one to do) but understand that spares are available. I'd be hoping that it's the main nut as suggested by @steve2286w -...
Welcome:)
I would say it don't look bad for its age, But;).
You need to tap it and listen, you will soon hear the diff from good metal to bad metal.
But I would say it will need work and some welding (soon), couple of pics I would say would give...
Congrats on getting your series 3, is it diesel or petrol and any piccies, people normally only use when in 3rd or 4th gears, are you using your clutch when engaging OD and also changing gears slowly
When the od lever pulled back(OD not engaged )...
Worth testing sensor in heated water while connected to temp gauge to check it covers the range reqd.
Sensors need matching to the gauge to get accurate readings as they have differing Temp v resistance graphs
That's is what I do, personally I think you would need to try quite hard to get it wrong.
When it is then operate the hand pump to see if it works, you might need to turn the engine to do this as it only works with the cam in certain positions...
The pump lever should be inserted so it’s above camshaft and the cam then pushes lever up and down when running
If the high point on cam is pointing up when you prime it won’t work so need to turn crank a bit so lever on lower part of cam
No it’s just one unit sender is half way up the pick up pipe I’m going to start again tomorrow morning and go through everything SLOWLY ONE THING AT A TIME. 🤞🤞
