A company I used to work for had one as a fleet vehicle. I would drive it occasionally - I don't remember anything about it (this would have been 2000 or 2001) other than that it did attract a fair amount of attention.
For sure. Our nearest big city is Edmonton, Alberta. It's an 18 drive from here. For the first 9 of that there's pretty much nothing. You'd drive past the turning to Fort Providence (pop 618) three hours from here, then in a further two you'd...
The important thing is that we're each happy with what we drive. There are people that do things to pick-up trucks in North America that I will never understand, but if they like it that's all that matters. There will be lots of people who...
l like the looks of mine from every angle except the front. l thought a larger grille like the old Defender would have looked better. But that's exactly what's been done on the new Octa and l don't like it at all.
Let's face it, nothing is going...
Well sometimes I do find myself asking that! I love the western Arctic though, and Yellowknife is a fantastic place. Just the right size (20,000ish) and not as remote now that we have year round road access. There are great people here, so many...
It's an easy job, The hardest part is the 'standard' filter that is in a bit of a tight spot. The oil drain/refill and the rotor filter are easy.
I wouldn't recommend a drive thru joint because they will likely not have done an oil change on a...
I reckon so! Funnily enough I ran the Webasto today. If it's cold enough you can run it while driving to help keep the cabin warm. I think (fingers crossed) that our sub-zero temps are on the way out now. Other than Wednesday all the daytime...
Webasto do block heaters for to get the water warm/hot.not found anything that would do for oil though. Think if you warmed the water it would flow through rad & does TD5 has the oil cooler fitted into the rad?
Also fit a night heater into the...
Great write-up. The new Defender is also a big miss for me. Nothing remotely appealing it at all, and I've been a LR fan for 50 years. I also find it one of the strangest looking vehicles on the road. The 90 isn't too bad, but the 110 is hideous...
Couldn't of put it better. These things are not Land Rover, Definitely Not Defender think they have made a big mistake with this one.
What are the Farmers going to change to now after all these years. Cant see them driving round there fields...
We do that on the ice roads, but on a big rig you can idle it up. Not so with a Td5 (although an object of the correct weight on the go pedal would work. I've also seen home made adjustable 'cruise controls' made with G clamps ;)
The heater in a Defender, when working ok and properly sealed, is sufficient for the UK climate. Using Vaseline on door seals stops the doors from sticking to frozen seals and a good radiator muff like the exmoor trim one helps.
Yup I cover the face too. Underneath does make a difference to a small diesel like that (most diesel pick-ups here are running 6.7L Fords and Cummins).
I like the olds cool idea - I bet that would get me a few looks!
I'm sorry I didn't read your full post iv no idea about your hardships as I turn on my heated seats, steering wheel and climate control when I feel a slight chill.
I think that's where the belly tarp comes in to help. I can't cover the underside of the rad 'cos I have a winch so I'm a little limited in how effective anything I can do is. Maybe I should just move to somewhere where they have normal...
Before the show I used to say it was 90% fun and 10% work. After the show it was 10% fun and 90% work. I've never been treated worse in my life than on that road for the first few years after the show came out. It got better for a little while, I...
That's a good question. I occasionally put some anti-gel in the diesel tank, but not very often. I've never added anything to petrol. On the ice roads (think Ice Road Truckers) I'd put anti-gel in every single fill, but those circumstances are a...
Greetings. I thought I'd try and get a discussion going about problems - and the solutions to those problems - that your Landy might have in the cold. I have an '05 90 Td5 and I live in the Canadian arctic (but I'm a born and bred Brit so I feel...
Hi all,
New to the forum - I'm in the Canadian Arctic, but I'm a born and bred Brit having spent the first 22 years of my life in the home counties. Cheers, or as we say in Canada 'take it easy, eh'!
That's a great tip! I remember the first time I changed the filter on my 90, I think it had been put on using a 12ft extension bar - whatever happened to hand tight for oil filters?! Thanks.
