Update on this. Washers have turned up
The Afu1879L and afu1887L are not in the stc1557 gasket kit. The 8 in the kit shown above post are slightly different.
Anyway! They don’t seem to fit exactly. I am guessing they are collapsing copper washers that just push against the recess in the block...

Yep that’s what I thought but they don’t fit. I have ordered the part numbers from the parts book so will update when they arrive today hopefully. Could be a crap gasket kit as there are 4 bolt and 4 squirt washers with different numbers. The ones in the kit are all the same

Refitting the piston oil squirts back into my block after strip down. When I removed them they 100% had no washers.
The Manual says they do for a 200tdi - not for a 300tdi.
The ESR1557 kit has the attached washers ( see pic)

ok - had another go - a good minute on each bore - and tightened up the honing stones as well - looks a lot better and can definitely see the cross patterns
Better now ? good to go !

So would you say a good 2 mins each bore is about right - i think i was to cautious with it

I have cleaned and checked my bores for wear
replaces big end and main bearing shells etc
I have honed my cylinders
BUT
I am not sure they are cross hatched enough ?
There is signs of cross hatching but also horizonal lines
Should I redo and hone...

I guess I should really change the rings whilst I am at it as the glow plugs were a little oily on a couple of the bores ?

so you think the pistons are ok as is then James ?
and by gapping you mean using feeler gauges to set the rings?

Ok - finally got around to doing the full strip down on the 200tdi engine - please see photos below
One note is that this is a run around and I don't do loads of miles on the engine
Big end bearings are starting to show copper on most of the pistons
Main Bearings also showing copper ( only 4 as...
