L322 4.2SC misfire after engine rebuild

Didn’t have access to vacuum fill, so went old school - let the hot engine cool slowly and draw the coolant in - worked a treat. The process in the manual was useless ! Coolant hoses were disconnected as heads etc were removed, water pump and thermostat replaced. Now onto cv boot rellacement...

L322 4.2SC misfire after engine rebuild

Just to update… found a faulty coil pack, replaced and engine now running nicely, without any misfire :)…. But now overheating and cannot seem to properly bleed the system as some hoses are cold, some empty, despite filling the tank and running the engine to top it up. Water pump and thermostat...

Good point, will get a (generic) diagnostic reader and see what it says. No compression test not (yet) done - thanks will add that to the list :-)

L322 4.2SC misfire after engine rebuild

Yes, all inlet reset to 0.2mm, exhaust to 0.25mm, plus or minus. Couldn’t afford new buckets, so ground the valve stem tips to get the correct clearance (used my lathe with a very fine grinding wheel). Took several iterations, needless to say became a dab hand with the valve spring compressor !

L322 4.2SC misfire after engine rebuild

Interesting, could be… I pulled one and from a quick visual test it was firing an okay spray when turned over and engine ticks over and revs on no load fine, just a problem when under load. Next steps ?

    L320 4.2SC oil pan removal?

Hi I've had the heads done (L322 4.2 SC, burnt out exhaust valve) but noticed the timing chains looked fairly stretched (180k miles) and wondered if I should change them ? If so, how did you get on with sourcing them... cost etc ?

    L322 suspension woes

Have to say I only changed one, not both, no noticeable effect on handling… Did expand my vocabulary though when I was changing it…

    L320 4.2SC oil pan removal?

Sorry, don’t know about removing the sump, I’m not touching the pistons, just the heads off. Are you doing the timing chains also ?
