To find the reason for poor fuel economy, look at your gearstick. If it says something like PRND - this is a contributor. You need to find 1 that says 123456R. Mine says PRND and its currently hovering in the low 11's average. When its...

If economy is poor, then everything needs checking. The MAF does loose efficiency over time, but it's effect on economy is negligible. The main reason the MAF is there is to limit soot generation while the EGR valve is passing exhaust gasses. 26...

Fantastic, thanks for the info. Apart from poor fuel economy and general inefficiency, is there any reason to do the APC urgently? If not, I’ll just ask them to do this during its next service, rather than pay to have it done separately.

The air path calibration is important, which is why LR specifically call for it. The ECM isn't self learning, so needs to be told what the correct values of the sensors are. Whe the APC is carried out, the MAF is one of the units under...

I would expect a MAF reading around 5g/s at idle with a hot engine. The egr not working properly or a dodgy maf will give different readings

I put in an EGR blanking plate to see if that was contributing to the problem, but it made no difference to the MAF readings (as I suppose you would expect). I'm going to see if I can visually inspect the hoses for leaks, but I'm not sure how...

Hijacking welcome! I have since replaced my EGR with a known working unit, and replaced my last two injectors in the same condition. My car still smokes black under load, and I am convinced my MAF readings are too high.... no one can tell me...

Good evening, all. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a very similar issue here with my 2008 Freelander 2 TD4. I don't have any black smoke issues, and the car is well-serviced and otherwise seems to be running quite well for its...

The ECM doesn't learn values after a replacement is fitted, because it doesn't know a replacement is fitted, hence the need for an air path calibration. JLR, PSA and Ford all list an air path calibration as in integral part of work required when...
