Yeah no noise in neutral, so I’m tempted to rule out anything engine mounted
-
That’s my next task, going to drain both and see what comes out and re fill them

300tdi in an '84 110. The front axle is a LHD 10 spline. Transfer box, gear box, engine from a Disco 94.
While driving there was a 'fuzzy' griding noise and the engine seemed to struggle for a moment or two, as if the wheel (or something) was resisting turning. this happened while doing perhaps...

heated windscreen into my 1984 110 was the best thing I ever did

All sorted now. Embarrassed to say the garage said they there was a washer between the gasket and the bottom of the engine. Now idea where that came from, but the bolt wen through it. So maybe the metal washer that sits inside the gasket was stuck to the underside of the engine when i removed...

well... wasn't LR but was not cheap at all

yup torqued correctly and in order. I will try to ease them all off and nip them up again, and if that doesn't work - pay someone to sort out my mess.

Either I did not tighten the bolts up tight enough, or too tight, or the gasket was postioned badly or everything, cause it's just urinating oil from underneath.
I hate myself

I thought i was being really good in dropping the sump off and giving everything a good clean. I wouldn't have noticed the wire has the exhaust and everything not been off too, so I take some comfort in that.
Small leak now in the sump, so i think I will have to gently slack and re-tighten the...

So....
the heat wave and waiting for parts means this update is late. But problem solved, problem caused.
I took off the sump and the pic up pipe, cleaned it all. There was some crud in there, but nothing too bad. New filter and new rotar fitted too. Was an arse of a job doing it all first...
-
ferndown isn't far. just outside blandford forum. Adding the rotary filter to the order and lets see.
-
which one is that? Thats new to me

filter and switch ordered. I have just started to drain the oil and will drop the sump off and clean the pick up while I wait for the bits. Anything else to do while the sump is off?
-
Agreed, I will order one. But thinking it would be very unlikely, as surely the pressure should be more when the engine is up to speed? So if it was the switch it would play up on ignition. But like you say, better rule it out. Don't have a guage

Oil light came on while driving (intermittent). Stopped and waited for cool. The level was low (just below low mark) so topped up at garage and drove home. Light still came on, but less.
Topped up fully. Light still coming on.
Light off at start of drive for maybe 30 minutes
Then on...
