yes, the lay shaft (as identified in the TD4 Manual/slots into/connects to crown wheel in IRD) doesn't actually have a bearing fitted to it. The layshaft shaft enters the crown wheel shaft. It's the crown wheel shaft that is touching the bearing inner. The crown wheel and layshaft themselves are...

OKAY…
Firstly I have looked at some footage of a video I was making whilst stripping down the IRD.
Luckily the footage includes me removing the ‘Layshaft’ and shows the bearing therein…
I can confirm that I am an idiot … and all will be well…

TD4 ...No paperwork or evidence of replacement..Would the V6 IRD work with a TD4 set up? When I bought the car it had normal routine maintenance(of a sort) all the 'normal' stuff had been done but little of the more 'advanced forum known work/upgrades'...kind of makes me feel the car is...

I think I might have to get in touch with Bell Engineering and ask the question. They themselves refinish IRD’s and they will be able to tell me what’s what and hopefully point me in the right direction.

That was destroyed when I took it out, and the numbers illegible unfortunately.

Hello Folks
In the process of rebuilding my IRD(yes still ‘at it’.)
Have an issue. I have replaced all the bearing races except one, the one that the lay shaft sits on. I have purchased two rebuild kits from ‘the main supplier of these’ in an attempt to solve a problem. The bearing that has...

Good advice above regards battery etc.
If you have a code regards glow plugs and no glow plug light on the dash …. Well that’s an issue..
Diesels are compression ignition engines. They rely on ‘heat’ in the chamber to ignite the diesel.. all done without spark. Now you state you battery is...

One other Issue maybe your starter motor. It may have worn starter solenoid inside. There are cheap rebuild kits available to replace the solenoid and contactor components on eBay. I repaired my daughter TD4(now my car) not long after purchase. I’m no...

Most hobbies have ‘fad’ status for a few years then slowly dwindle to ‘hard core’ enthusiasts.. even if ‘hardcore’ means driving down to the local Tesco in your ‘off-roader’ once a week. I think overall most ‘activities’ have been curtailed in recent years because of ‘events’ and folks are...

It might be gummed up and clears itself every now and again. If you can remove it and clean it you will have a better idea of that is the problem or not.

Thanks for the advice. I live in the sticks but serious off-roading isn’t planned as such at least for the time being. It’s more for practical purposes as the tyres I have at the moment (Khumo) are excellent road tyres but have struggled on our track in snow and when very muddy. Along with pot...

Hello All.
Currently mulling over doing a 40mm lift on my facelift TD4. I have 16 inch Freelander 1 alloys alloys and wonder if I can fit the following tyres to them.. and if so would I need spacers to clear the suspension and bodywork etc. All just theory at the moment but I have a firm offer...

Had to ask… yep certainly did!
Thanks for the input.

Hello
Has anyone swapped out a FL1 motor and drive train for a Jaguar X Type V6 along with the transmission and drive line etc ?
As there is a Rover 2.5 V6 already in one model I’m curious as to the possibility of an X Type swap
It’s just an itch I need to scratch…
TIA
