Today we did the static timing as described by datatek, first tapping the FIP 5mm away from the engine and 1mm back, after driving the engine to 95 degrees this gave a jump to 60% modulation at idle, from the old 4%. Then tapping it again towards...

All sorted. Two different key fobs from the bay. One came with unbranded side pieces and i managed to transfer one good side piece and attach my key to the second. £45 and £22 respectively. Both now work marvellously. I have not had two good...

Unbelievable! that worked wonderfully with the press. It took less than 2 minutes and the bushes were out. I thought too much about it. Thanks to everyone for the support!!!

À good question, it just crossed my mind. I'm not sure tbh about your model. Did you check the earths to and from each component on the ignition circuit?

I did my hockey stick bushes and the arm to chassis bushes at the same time all in oem style parts. I do run polybushes on anti roll bar and stiffer shocks. Other than it's standard and drives and handles well. The terrafirmer shocks are a...

The poly go in easier but if you get grit in there they can wear away. Some people find the handling crisper but slightly harsher ride. Rubber are harder to get in without the taper tool and press. Seeing as the originals lasted over 15 years I...

There have been people here that find them fine. Others have gone to the arduous task of changing all for polys, only then to revert them all to standard due to issues. Changing them out merely for the sake of it I would say not worth it. If...

I think you'll find that's coming from the ECU cooling fan in the engine bay. Mine does it from time to time.

That's not a press tool. It looks like its from a brake wind back kit ?

Ah OK, have you tested continuity for earth between the battery negative and the components earth supplies and component bodies?

Are you still on points? Are they actually opening and clean on the contacts, remember these trigger a spark front the system.. They can close and or even build carbon on the contacts and never break the circuit to cause a spark🤔

Update: Ok so I’ve fitted a new viper coil and ignition amp from PS and no difference. I’ve checked and cleaned all grounds while doing so. I’m really clutching at straws here now lol. To reiterate I’m getting 12 volts to the amp and about 10.8...

We’ve all had the previous owner issues that once you finally find them you are scratching you’re head as to why oh why. If you think of how it runs rougher between 14-4 (10%) imagine how much more 36% better will be

It's not a easy job but recenter the fuel pump. When you look at the three nuts that hold it to the engine casing, there slots. Mark it's position and adjust the head of the pump away from the block away from the block a little, warm the engine...

Don't think it's loose, just that someone may not have positioned it 100% correctly. I honestly wonder who worked on this car before I bought it, because one of the brake pads was the wrong way on the caliper when I did the brakes a month after...

No chance of that kiddo, the gearbox constantly adjusts the clutch biting point itself and if it's struggling it will have gone over it's programmed limit for the clutch. Sometimes you can get it to relearn with diagnostics but normally it means...

I had the discs and they worked fine. Bigger than standard and fitted well. Think biggest thing that made a difference was decent pads, but compared to what came off anything would have been an improvement
  • Mark Piercy
Hi, I had mounted drilled and slotted discs on my defender td4 puma years ago, the difference was practically only aesthetic, from what you can see from the 16" rims of an off-road vehicle. Here in Italy there is a company that sells reinforced...
