The older s2 manuals actually tell you the bolts dimensions, so maybe ask on here or the s2forum or buy a s2 manual.

Always and I mean always grease stainless bolt threads, normal grease is just fine.

You can get stainless in different strengths, but the stronger ones are not cheap, in fact all special bolts seems bloody expensive at the minute.

What make was the new alternator? I think Denso are the one to get. Is the battery shagged? ie cooked by the old alternator.

Earth cable goes from battery negative to body then chassis all in one cable, they are pretty poor.
