The Main battle commences tomorrow with a visit to the steam cleaner. I have been over it with my cold machine and got about 80% of the crud off, so should only take an hour or so to go over it, then it starts in earnest. I'll be down at my old...

The War of the Land Rover. Pt. 1 The battle for the brakes It is Mot'd until the end of Sept, so I have a bit of time to sort it out. Since getting it I have roughed out a plan of attack. 1. Do something about the Driving position. Defenders are...

Well enjoy working on your pride and joy…found the same working on my old pal… a lot of the parts I found were not quite to the same standard as the old stuff…bit of a mine field finding parts. Shop carefully boss. 👍

Don't forget the D1 transfer box is rod operated unlike the D2, worth a check if that still correct.

New HT leads and new fuel filter fitted. Just waiting for the new distributor cap and rotor to arrive. I changed the plugs (lordy!) for new and all the screw on caps were loose, they are not now. It is firing better but not perfect yet. The...

If you replace the steel plate that is riveted to the gearbox tunnel along with the auto selector and the complete CDL selector from the D2. It will all swap over to the D1. You will however need to modify the level on the gearbox end for the...

The two hoses that run along the chassis are only available together - LR do sell them, but they're not cheap especially the earlier one (to VIN3A828006) which is over double the price of the later one. The connectors are 7.89mm.

Those two pictures of the gauge show it is charging. What is the alternator rated to? 60-80A is common I think, and that is at max revs. It probably pushes 40A or less normally (I don’t think it will fail and over-charge, just undercharge). I...

Reviving this. I have a misfire at high revs now (didn’t a couple of weeks ago) after the alternator pulley pinged off. Car is a 3.9 EFi, now in a ex-TDi Discovery. Belt is now back on and the alternator (200A version) is raising the twin...

A misfire at high revs could be a number of things. I think I might start with the ignition amplifier. Also check the battery and the alternator output. Vac leak is a possibility and unfortunately so is HGF, so maybe do a full (wet and dry)...

That is the correct belt routing for a 3.9 without an AC compressor. The disco1 3.9 was never fitted with carburettors, anyway the 3.9 has two belts to pick from, ERR4623 and ERR5579 if fitted with AC… also as always its depending on engine...

Typically (mostly but not always) rubber things from Britpart are not as robust as OEM parts. Hoses and seals spring to mind. Some metal parts are OK (nuts and bolts for example) with the exception of bearings which in the main are nowhere near...
