    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

I've heard about using grease. Seems a good thing. I like hylomar as well but I have a feeling it's not best on the carb.

I make myself more work by wanting to fix everything. I should go route of least resistance and get a new one. I could then keep the old one and faff about with it to my hearts content later on after the landy is back on the road.

It's a thought isn't it? I just keep reading about people getting those and then never being able to get them running right. I'll see how many problems I get putting the old one back together and how fed up of it I get. Thanks for the advice Dan.

One of the many things in life that annoys me is rubbish quality gaskets. Here's the original for this doohickey on top of the carb. Then here's one of the ones they sent with the refurb kit (both were as bad as each other) It doesn't even pretend to fit. I could have chopped it about to make...

Carburettor. What do you do? Best option, send to a specialist and give it the works. Can't really afford it. Change to a Weber. I stupidly want to keep the original one. Buy a Chinese replacement. I hear they can be lots of trouble. I'm going to have a bash at refurbing mine. Last time it ran I...

Latest dash bits. Still got a bit of fettling and shaping to do before covering in vinyl but definitely coming on. I can't think of a way to replicate the indented oval shape over those three spare gauge holes so will have to live without it. Also I don't think those vents are right for the year...

If you've got the go ahead from your financial director i'd get the nice new one. I spent (and am spending) countless hours on it. I do get it about wanting to repair the original though.

I bet rivets would work. I always tend to do things the hard way. You just need to keep the heads fairly flush on the outside where the foam goes on. Are you reusing the original foam? Mine was too far gone so i'm recovering it in EVA foam.

Blimey. I though mine was bad. That's worse. Here's what I did if it's any help. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/steves-unexpected-series-3-rebuild.292955/page-44

Series 3 Where do you get your vinyl from?

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I've been off having another hernia op so I haven't got round to it yet.

Nice one. Thanks for that. I'll give them a go.

Series 3 Where do you get your vinyl from?

Evening everyone. I’m getting ready to re-cover my series 3 dash so I’ll be needing vinyl. Can anyone recommend a supplier or is it just a case of trawling eBay? I hear that 4 way stretch is the best. I’ve already got high temperature contact adhesive from car builder solutions so that’s sorted...

What a lovely, neat job. Great pictures too. Will really help anyone considering doing a servo change.

I think the series colour was marine blue but windjammer sounds pretty groovy.

Yeah. Every bit helps. It is deep bronze green. Original colour and my favourite. Quite partial to farmer blue as well though.
