I've found on two Discos that lazy central locking can be lack of use. My current one sits in a dry garage for 10 months each year, once it's been in use for a couple of days central locking works much better. Admittedly I don't trust it completely.

Interior space might be a problem but would she consider a late Freelander or an early Disco Sport with the same 2.2 engine. Much better engine. Watch for rear subframe corrosion.

Might I suggest that after you establish that your D1 drives reasonably well you lift the carpets back front and rear to check how good (or bad) the floors and bulkhead are. Also peel back the rear boot mat to inspect as rear floor and inner...

Accidents like this are difficult to prove either way unless there's independent evidence. A camera might catch the number but not necessarily positioning of the vehicles. I had an incident in France and my camera didn't prove anything. Neither...

Can I ask, is this common to petrol and diesel? I scrapped an auto a while back, got the pump and injectors, I didn't know about this item

Insurance is a minefield and the only way to find out is to get online or phone around. There are so many variables, private use only, are you commuting to work, one or more drivers, age of vehicle......, (sometimes adding a mature driver helps)...

Kenbo replied to the thread Brake problem , advice needed.
I once came across something similar on a car. After sitting a while they eased enough to get home. The car was OK locally and I blamed the servo initially but It took a while to find that the new pads were too tight in the calipers. On a longer...

Always interesting. I'd have been tempted to fill the sump and see if the engine ran quietly. It's possibly scrap anyway, nothing to lose.

Yep, good advice, I saw a video recently: wet belt replaced and sealant everywhere, and made it to the oil strainer.

Thank you. I'm not actually familiar with this part of the engine so I'll see the lt in a few days.

In my opinion there's no need for that hole as it allows oil out the end of the block and the big gasket at the flywheel housing has to stop it. We've no choice, going to build the engine and box up again but with lots of sealant. Thanks for the...

I've attached another photo of this rear main bearing cap, can anyone tell me the purpose of the hole in the side? It seems to be the cause of a big oil leak despite new gaskets.

My query is that hole in the end cap. It will allow oil to escape and I can't see it's purpose. The gasket between the block and flywheel housing should stop leakage but didn't. Luckily the leak was noticed before fitting the engine. I'm...

I've been helping my brother to replace the rear crank seal and main gasket but the engine now has a big oil leak. All taken apart again as we blamed the tee seals but I'm totally confused by the hole in the big end cap. The engine had previously...
