They have a long power cable length normally ,my relays are on the upright by the radiator for easy acsess. Main power lead is fed off the starter solinoid, saved me going back to the battery.
Switching is done off the old headlight circuit on to the relays
Only thing I ever noticed is going to...

Use a set of jump leads to test.
Also can use the leads as extra earths, then if all good just put some more on

If it cranks by hand, all is free.
Have you used the same starter motor? & is that free ?
What type of starter is it?

Can you fix any thing to zip tie /metal strap these under the bonnet.

That would mean you got a later speedo cable for an earlier motor.
The later speedo drive ends are very small

No cable in the middle is correct.

Few questions..
Have you/could you disturbed the rear of the ignition barrel?
Starter relay.
Just swap this for a relay close to it to check it works. Think they are all 4 spade relays .
I have a relay fitted to mine will check the voltage this afternoon when I’m back home.

Thin cable excites the alternator to make a change.
So light should be on with ignition.
Once running the charge should turn out the light.
Make sure little cable goes on little connector. The 2 large lugs are joined

Selector shaft assembly..
Has a piped breather like your axles have. Same design of banjo bolt & vent pipe routes to the bulkhead/engine bay.

Does it go to that fuse box in the photo?
