    Finally got round to replacing the crank position sensor. The car had only failed to start twice these past couple of months but the crank sensor seemed to be the most likely culprit. Only time will tell. Easy job, took less than an hour.

    Probe it first and see if the signal looks correct, before ordering. IIRC, you are looking for something like 1-5v at cranking, but you’d need to check that. Mine was about 0.03!

    On an F1 TD4, I’d have gone for the camshaft sensor first, like I mentioned in post #16. A faulty one will give starting issues.

    The reservoir has a filter in it that can get clogged over time. It’s good practice to change it at the same time, for peace of mind - they are not expensive.
