My understanding is that the kink in the Steve Parker downpipe means that’s should miss the engine mount

dag019 replied to the thread Converting and old TD to a 300tdi.
It’s the defender lt77 currently sat behind the TD engine. So it should all line up. The reason for me is I don’t want to have to cut and weld the chassis. The current chassis is beyond repair so will need a replacement as part of the rebuild...

dag019 replied to the thread I have bought a station wagon.
I Probabaly could do but currently with a little one, speed and ease are worth paying for as time is very limited. By buying the Steve Parker mount everything should just be an easy bolt in job.

Some pictures of the tub as everyone loves picture. As you can see the Ali corrosion is just as bad as the station wagon body I have just repaired.

I'm with flux and have renewal shortly so will ask them to clarify at that point, seems a little foolish if on a defender the towbar is extra, that half the point of owning one!

dag019 replied to the thread I have bought a station wagon.
I have also sourced a 300Tdi engine for the white 110 to replace the TD currently fitted which the previous owner confirmed was wrecked when they sold it to the garage! I have a separate thread on it here: LINK but will duplicate the post to...

dag019 replied to the thread I have bought a station wagon.
Bit of an update to this, my 110 (red) now as a station wagon is perfuming flawlessly as expected. I still prefer the hard top body but this is the sacrifices you make by having children. There has been more times that I have had to use the...

I know this has been done before and there is lots of information out there with the glencoyne being the definitive guide for this (link) With many thanks going to @RustyDefender I have a 300tdi engine to fit to my sons '88 110 (Thread link)...

That was also my understanding. I don’t think I have the tow bar declared on my insurance, I will have to check, I have the other things like the snorkel, and tree sliders etc. declared.

zinc 182 primer and a tractor/machine enamel top coat is what I use and gives a finish that will last.

dag019 replied to the thread Buying my first Defender?.
Agree with the above, the chassis looks to be in reasonable condition but it needs a good wash and wax coating inside and out to keep it that way. I am also going to assume from the shiny black paintwork and AC grill that can be seen that the...

get them shot blasted and hot dip galvanised before re-painting and you wont have the issue again?

I don't want to sound patronising here and may have missed something in your write up, but in your pictures you have taken showing the glass is still loose you have not fitted the expansion strip into the seal. Until this expansion strip is...

There may be a local supplier where you can go and pick one up. When I last needed a windscreen my local independent land rover specialist could supply me one for £60 which made it much cheaper than online by the time you added in postage. It was...

dag019 replied to the thread Euro6 Puma TD5 defender.
A td5 and a puma are two different things and it cannot be both. At 2014 it will be the puma. I am not as familiar with the prices of new ones as I am with the older ones. But my gut reaction would be no you won’t get the money back. Most people...

You seem very keen on the LOF kit almost as if you have made up your mind already. The TRW kit is the one you need, it was designed far and works well with the car. It will also likely be better quality than the LOF

another vote for tigerseal from me. But in reality any PU adhesive sealant will do the job, all we are doing here is arguing about brands!

I know not what you are looking for but you can get very good results with a gloss roller and some coach enamel unless you have a fussy metallic paintjob. and the whole job would cost you about £30!

Are you sure? I have done other panels with YRM replacements where you drill out the spotwelds with a 5mm bit, and then split the panel with a sharp chisel (I use an old wood chisel as thinner and sharper than a metal working chisel and ali is...

dag019 replied to the thread First time 110 purchase.
It has long been my opinion that if you are not willing to do the work yourself you shouldn't really own a defender. You would need such deep pockets to keep one on the road if you paid a garage for every little job and niggle that you would...

Personally speaking I’d have a 300tdi 90 on a 95 plate which my son purchased in 2018 he bought it only really knowing it had a rc galvanised chassis replaced in 2014 , not long after purchasing we realised both front brakes were seized which we...

lt's easy to improve one to make it better as a car, if that's what you want to use it for. First try to get one with aircon. Adjustable dampers set to soft, give a better ride on the road RTC steering damper makes the steering more suitable...

dag019 replied to the thread Drive Before I Decide?.
I did find it terrible before I actually had a look at anything. I then found I had no thermostat fitted, replaced with a 78 degree one. I then found all the foam seals in the heater box had disintegrated, same with the dash air box, after...

^^ I think the above is the case form everything you have described here. I have a 2.25 5mb diesel in my series 3 fitted with 7.50 tyres and an overdrive. It is slow compared to modern traffic but it is usable. It has similar acceleration and...

dag019 replied to the thread 90 twisted bulk head.
If you have done as much adjusting as you can at the hinges then you do need to space the bulkhead forward, contrary to my previous post this is done by removing washers rather than adding! Ignore the rust it is a pic from google, but if you have...

With that sort of budget and with the desire to learn how to maintain it you could get a 300tdi that has been rebuilt by one of the reputable companies with galv chassis, galv bullhead etc. This will give you a reliable starting point but still...

dag019 replied to the thread 90 twisted bulk head.
My first trough on that is that the bulkhead needs moving forward by adding a couple of washers between it and the chassis on that side. You can do that without actually stripping everything down just loosen all the bulkhead mounting bolts and...
