The test sheet that came with my new alternator. If I am reading the performance curve correctly does that mean that at a little over 4000rpm it will produce 160amp? I will need to do some maths looking at the belt gearing but the engine can do...

This^^. I am in exactly the same position and could not have put it better myself. 200tdi 110 has been my daily drive since I was 18, I do about 30k miles a year, and the wife's car just feels terrible to drive. they are perfectly capable of...

I don't know what all the fuss is about myself. I drive thousands of miles in my TD5 and don't find it burdensome at all. The most miles I've covered in a day is around 700. My everyday motoring includes rural roads, motorway trips and the...

It depends on the alternator. You can do that with the Lucas alternators, but certainly not with Magneti Marelli as I tried that with the one I got form Newbury and then had to resolder all the windings before giving away as the end cover is...

You may want to skim through some of them, two of them are rather long documenting the whole build process most of which is not relevant to your original painting question!

I did not think t-wash was a true etch though hence I still used an etch primer on things that were getting a body coloured top coat. Everythign else is zinc 182 for as much protection as posisble.

New alternator arrived yesterday (my mistake, first one arrived Friday but realised I had ordered a defender one not a discovery one and they are handed opposite!) and was fitted today, all being well it should not require anything for a good...

No need to key the surface as it is a chemical reaction rather than needing to adhere to the surface like paint. This^^ I completely agree with. For the price and ease it is not worth the risk of not using it in my opinion. In terms of patio...

I have done bulkheads, chassis and lots of galvanised brackets from YRM. The technique and order I use is: T-wash Primer Topcoat Dintrol The primer I use depends on the applications and part, I use an acid etch primer for body panels, and Zinc...

dag019 replied to the thread Headlining adhesive.
I glued my old fabric back on with impact contact adhesive and it has not sagged yet. There is clearly different fabrics used though as three out of four of the sections I have done this with have been fine, but the fourth reacted and wrinkled...

Has it stood for a long time? Could be condensation? Also goes a pale pink emulsion colour if it is running low and filled wither bubbles. The power steering reservoir often looks like that but settles back to normal red atf.

dag019 replied to the thread 110 Sounds like a tram.
need a little more information about how and when the sound occurs. Does it happen only when underload, or on overrun, does it happen when moving but in neutral, or with clutch pressed etc. Why do they think it is the axles not the main gearbox...

Was quoted similar by a company in Bristol, which included return delivery.

Price is about right for a full rebuild down in Essex. The green flat O ring is high pressure. Black is standard or low pressure. I'm remembering the black one is at the top of pump as a seal so put in wrong place however don't know why both were...

Mix it 1:4 with fresh diesel and run it in a tdi or any other old diesel! Mine is the same but last time they challenged my with a 25l drum of old oil, I continued emptying it while quoting and adding up the engine and gearbox quantities in the...

dag019 replied to the thread 300TDI diesel pump.
It depends where it is leaking from. I have just repaired a leak on my 200tdi injection pump and it was just an o-ring in the blanking plate on the side. I have previously done the throttle spindle bush when it was leaking form there. Both of...

That's the same with the series, but as @tottot says disconnecting the battery from the alternator risks damage.

^^ beat me to it! These vehiels were not "concourse" when they left the factory. I would go far more with the usable, reliable, and tidy rather than perfect. if you make it perfect you will not want to use it properly. When I rebuilt my series...

You can keep a tdi running with a 9v battery from a tv remote wired into the stop solenoid. They really are the old fashioned mechanical type that require virtually no power to run. On this I went with the safe option to protect the battery...

That is a job for tomorrow. Right now I need to get it to a point where I can drive it with or without the engine charging the battery so I can get to work in Stoke later tonight. Have a separate thread asking about that specific issue!
  • dag019
That is all I put back. No idea what the black on was. Was much harder material than the green one. But doesn’t seem to be leaking anymore! Now just need to sort the alternator.
  • dag019
My alternator seems to have failed. My rev counter is no longer retreating the dash battery warning light is permanently lit. However my volt metre (just the standard Land Rover so not an irate) show increased voltage when the engine is...

Well sickening the belt has not made a difference. On some closer inspection now the injector pump leak is solved and I can run the engine without dumping diesel everywhere the dash charge light does get dimmer with revs but does not go out. And...
  • dag019
That may well be the case as it seems to have fixed the leak just replacing the o-ring and putting the cover back on. Without the black seal. The test drive home will confirm.
  • dag019
Well when I took the cover off I thought I had found my smoking gun as the black part is badly torn: Then I realised that that isn’t the o-ring and there is an o-ring as well. Anyone any ideas? I have replaced the o-ring and not refitted the...

That price is inc vat just for clarity. But I am not sure what will be wrong with it, it was fully working, and was then in an engine fire. the local place didn't seem bothered by that and just aid they are the flat rate.
  • dag019
Picked up the o-ring needed today form a local diesel specialist, proper old fashioned Aladdin's cave of a workshop in an industrial unit with injections pumps everywhere! On that note he quoted me £540 to rebuild a 200tdi injection pump (the...
  • dag019
I use a crowbar everytime! But I will try slackening it off and see if that makes a difference. Need to fix the injector pump leak first, but managed to get the o-ring needed today.

Good point, but it’s very repairable, and if I was fit enough to break it I’d fix it!
