Just to update. I have again tried the 2 new MAFs with the same ending, chugging black smoke and backfiring. I have now fitted a good used one from James Coleman (SAGEM OEM) and tried it, it started but was really rough. I checked for any faults (none) and then did the adaptive reset, suddenly...

All sorted, pretty easy TBH, the plastic latch piece on both had got gunked up with old grease, dirt and rust, a few squirts of brake cleaner and nice new lube. I didn't even need to remove the latches, both smooth as silk now and close and open easy peasy :) Cheers all, now onto the MAF...

The lower one has a screw in the door the upper is held with the pin and sac cup. I am not sure if there is a screw in the front of the door, mine is just clip on with the above fittings. I have some in my spares boxes just in case :)

Many thanks, lotsa info to get on with there, the engine was idling on the old MAF for all screen shots, odd about the airflow bit, I did wonder but I am not au fait with using engine diagnostics so I wouldn't fully know what I am looking at!

Thanks Pete, My MAF only has 3 pins, it is a GEMS and not Bosch/Motronic. When I put the new MAF in (either one) I cannot physically drive the car because it won't rev no matter how hard I press the pedal. The readings do change when revving on the old MAF, I can't keep the engine running for...

If any one can interpret these, they are readings on the old MAF after clearing the fault and doing an adaptive reset
