And so today I had the bad news: new engine required. €21k (= £17,600) labour and VAT all-in with a 2 yr warranty. I don’t suppose there any use in keeping hold of any of the old parts?

Quick update for the folks who were kind enough to lend me their advice a few weeks ago. Just heard from JLR. Email said “we’ve noticed a knocking from the engine… and here’s a quote of €1300 to take the diff off and remove the sump to inspect it” 2 weeks it’s been with them 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hi thanks for the reply - just to confirm exactly what you mean by making sure they don’t try and turn it over? You mean that they don’t start the engine? Asking because some other advice is to listen to the engine to locate the noise. Apologies if I’m being stupid! Just thought it best to check

Thanks - sound advice! I’ll trailer it to the garage. Unfortunately I’m in France and JLR main dealer is my only option (locals drive Japanese kit). Just to prepare myself, if it’s a big end tap, or a crank, what kind of money would you expect to pay for the job?
