    TD5 Fuel pump mystery

I'd be having a good look at pump earth. It's not a lot of use having 12 at the +ve if the remains can't get to round.

Amps are the important bit here.

Quick straw poll before the Malvern spares day

I'm going to be a contrarian. I think the bumperettes on Lightweights were really a bit of a fudge to cut down the amount of dirt being thrown forwards under the wings, or maybe to protect the gap that branches could get into. For various reasons I've been using my LW without and it's a big old...

    Keep Losing Alternator belt tension

I'm sure it would work, but obviously wonder why you have the problem. Are you perhaps over-tightening? Or faulty belts?

    Series 2 S2A clutch alignment

Find something roddish that's looseish in the spigot bush. Put the clutch and cover on looseley. Move the rod up and down to see what it's full range is and then use less movement until you can move it in any direction and it comes up against the clutch splines at the same angle as any other...

CV joint separation... for a brand new Joint and shaft!

Old thread, but if the half shaft is heavy enough (as it is with Defenders etc.) close the vice to a couple of mm bigger than the shaft, and with the CVJ in your hand and the shaft hanging perpendicular, slam the CVJ down on the vice top. The half shaft carries on, so have a piece of wood rather...

    Bulkhead alignment issues.

The only real fore and aft stiffness is in the door pillars - including the brackets for the long chassis bolts. I can only think that something on those isn't right. I'd lift it off and find a rod that's a nice fit in the bolt tube and see if both sides are at a right angle to the door pillar...

No idea what happened to my British Thornton one, but I do have my father's one, and it's quite nice knowing that it designed bits of jet engines.

1966 Series 2a diesel to petrol swap

I can't see why it wouldn't work, but it's not going to be a very nice drive - revs will be slow to rise and fall.

It being a Mini and equipped with one of Lucas's finest ignition switches I'd be looking from there to the coil and distributor. Timing's unlikely to have shifted.

We got Mum to do it for money, but being a retired doctor she wasn't keen on doing one for health. As it happens it's working quite well, the medics appreciate that we're very involved and understand the options and so listen and give weight to what we say.
