No leaks at the moment, just loosened choses while I remove the rad
  • B
I loosened the clip and pushed the hose back slightly, that's where the drip is coming from
  • B
Pardon the stupid question, but where is the bolt on the driver side of the radiator? There's one on the passenger side (although it won't come free because the nut is spinning freely - any tips?), but I can't see one on the driver's side. I...

I'm sure the pipe from the radiator to the expansion is correct because I can blow through it and hear bubbles, hopefully that means the other pipe is in the right place too
  • B
Ah I was hoping to leave the fan alone. Someone before me has nicely butchered the nut on it
  • B
It was a bit rusty coloured at first, then eventually ran clear. I'll take the rad off tomorrow - is it a pain to get out?
  • B
Perhaps tomorrow I'll remove the rad completely and try and give it a good blasting. Any ideas what this noise in the video could be? It might be a red herring, but I didn't hear it before the strip down
  • B
I broke my bucket :( This is the flow out of the drain plug with the hose in the top pipe - I couldn't turn the pressure up very high because it would just blow back out the top. I gave the bleed pipe a good blow from the rad side, and I could...
  • B
To the best of my knowledge, it was good before I stripped everything down I will try this now.
  • B
This is what comes out of the bleed pipe with the engine running and when revving: It starts with a steady spill when idling, then as I rev it seems to increase to a steady stream before stopping altogether. I am not sure, should I undo the...

Just tried it again after leaving it for a while. Tried filling via radiator top hose, but it was already full. The metal pipe on the other end that goes to the block was also full. Started it up, ran for a few minutes before coolant was being...
  • B
When you say fill the radiator, do you mean fill it directly through the top hose?
  • B
Before filling the system, I stuck a hose in the top of the radiator and removed the drain plug to try and flush as much crud out as I could

Just tried to test for exhaust gases again. Coolant started to get pushed up through the device before I could give it enough time to let the liquid change colour. Something is causing the coolant to overflow pretty consistently. Cabin heater...

Just ran it again until it started going in to the red. Coolant still gushing, heaters on full blast max temp. Noticed that radiator feels cold all over - no hotspots on the top or bottom (from the limited places I could feel it anyway)
  • B
Afternoon, I've had another go at filling the coolant. I drained as much as I could from the radiator, and made sure the bleed hose was clear. Filled up until it was at the neck level, then started the engine. Filled up a little more after a...

Let's hope it is an airlock then. Are they a pain to clear? I don't want to let it idle for too long if the temp keeps spiking. As for that device - there aren't any extra fans that I can see (around the rad anyway), I'll have to try and follow...

Update: Left it running with the radiator cap off, but coolant starting gushing out after a few minutes. Not sure if that's expected? Put the radiator cap back on and let it run again, temp needle went in to the red 🔴. In terms of leaks, found...

I should clarify - when I say 'a while', I mean for today while I check for any leaks. The wrap will be arriving tomorrow and will go straight on
  • B
I'm assuming there'll be plenty of air in the system that needs bleeding, I'll drive the front wheels up on my small ramps - hopefully that'll be a good angle to get the trapped air out. My heat wrap hasn't arrived for the exhaust manifolds yet -...

A lesson in over tightening. Now I have one less bolt holding down the drivers side rocker cover. Rest is reassembled, with only two bolts left over, not as bad as I was expecting! Turned over and started fairly easily, but I didn't run it for...

Belt is on now. Guide says to fit the rocker gasket to the heads first, and then place the cover on top. How the hell do you get the gasket to stay in place? It's all over the place! I've put some gasket goo on it now and have left it to set...

Just remember groved side goes on a grooved pulley and smooth side goes on a smooth pulley.

Good progress today. Intake manifold and all ancillaries are on. Tried fitting the aux belt, but it has defeated me today. Rubber kept getting twisted and jammed in the fan blades. Will continue tomorrow if the weather permits.

That's your basic 5/16th UNC bolt sir.... https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/part/id/9.55824.56311.60970/brand/land-rover/ Island 4x4 do them for £3 https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=602236

Afternoon folks, it's been a busy week so not been able to spend much time on the car. Does anyone have a link to where I can buy the bolts for the valley gasket seal clamp? I've tried each bolt that I thought was it, but none of them seem to...
  • B
Do you think I can remember where I put the valley gasket clamp bolts? Not a chance. It feels like nothing fits. Also, is the correct order (from top to bottom) clamp, seal, gasket? My RAVE manual seems to skip straight from rocker cover to...

Afternoon folks, been fitting the exhaust manifolds today. All but one went in without issue - the one by the steering shaft may have gone it at a slight angle, so I'll need to take it out and check I haven't buggered the threads. Another...

Good news, both heads are on and have been torqued down to ARP spec (although that doesn't feel very tight!) Next step is the exhaust manifolds, I made a start on them but the new gasket slipped between the heat shield and the engine block, so I...

They'll be pushing against the valve springs. I put mine in with the valve bridge unbolted and then bolted the bridge down (using the sequence in RAVE). As you tighten the bolts down, the valves will open on those valves that are being acted...
