Don't know about this car but on at least some it should be manual until you press pass the resistance at 100% throttle to the kickdown button which will override your gear selection -

Older cars cost more to maintain but virtually zero on depreciation so in the end they are much cheaper to own. Sometimes (not always. ;)) it's better to stick with the car you know than to buy something totally unknown.

Yes we decided to get it done. Naturally they found other stuff, so it’ll be a wheel bearing and two track rods ends to do before the mot. 🙄
