It can get pricey.... If you need new height sensors or have any wiring issues. Also if you need to rebuild the valve block, not everyone will want to do this themselves. And some places may charge you an arm and a leg.

Yes insurance for mods. Shouldn't be an issue for the headlights, as that would have been for Type Approval. And won't be rechecked for anything you do with the vehicle. And if insured as a modification, all good. Older vehicles also don't have...

Sadly the EAS can be a pita. And while a few claim they can be reliable, they are by far the very small minority.... Anything you do to fix them, they can still go wrong. In some ways the suspension is not that complex, but if you need to sort...

This may not be the best route, depends how much money, time and did I say money.... the op wants to spend. Rust is often nowhere near as bad as people make out, far to many drama Queens. Just a clean up and some treatment products may well keep...

FL1 is a completely different vehicle, engine and gearbox though. The KV6 (as nice as they are) only makes 177bhp, so less power than even the SD4 and 53+bhp down on the 3.2 under discussion. So, I'm not sure what relevance it has in this...
  • 300bhp/ton
No, read the rest of what I put. Hence asking if anyone had ever raced the two. You often find a lot of interesting things on Youtube. Although I can't see much for this. A bit more searching has also said 8.4 for the 3.2 and 8.9 for the SD4...
  • 300bhp/ton
Stats online say 8.5 vs 8.7 sec to 60mph in favour of the 3.2 However, most online stats are not great as they mix up 0-60mph and 0-62mph. It also depends on the shift points too, meaning one vehicle might need an extra gear change, which could...

All much of a muchness really. Upgrade the intercooler if getting a remap. It’ll make it even more worthwhile.
  • 300bhp/ton
Safety feature? Surely not. There are actual manual cars that have no ability to kickdown at all. There can be no hazard or danger by replicating this with an auto when in a specific mode.
  • 300bhp/ton
You can’t use full throttle easily if this is the case. Autos don’t need full throttle to lockdown. They are all electronic on the pedal position.
  • 300bhp/ton
Had a go in an FL2 today. Went better than I thought it would. Mostly the autobox isn't too annoying, but it has a terrible terrible trait (as so many autos do). When you move the stick to the left and activate the manual mode, it isn't...

300bhp/ton replied to the thread Narrow tyres.
What Land Rover do you have? 7.50 x 16, at least a proper one, is already very narrow and tall. Next size down is 7.00 x 16, then 6.50 x 16, 6.00 x 16 But very very little choice in these sizes these days. The narrower you go, the shorter the...

With the floor up the R380 serial number is much easier to read. Its prefix is 68A with a suffix of L. Which, I think, means its a long stick originally fitted to a Defender. This may guide future choices for an engine swap...some may be easier...
  • 300bhp/ton
Aside from the swap, RV8's often wear the cam and lifters. worth swapping these, or even going for a slightly bigger cam. The RV8 is no powerhouse, but 200hp should be fairly doable with minimal mods. For the exhausts, if you can fabricate, some...

300bhp/ton replied to the thread Wheels - -35 offset too much?.
So, offset is more complex than that. ET is the distance from the rims centre line that the mounting flange is. So a different width rim will have a different off set. e.g. a 16 x 6.5" rim with say ET00 offset would be equal dish on both sides...

300bhp/ton replied to the thread Wheels - -35 offset too much?.
The answer is probably yes... but it does depend on what you are wanting to achieve and why you want such deep off set rims. Stock rims are 6.5" and +33ET offset. So a 30mm Spacer would make it like an +03ET rim. -35ET is massively more offset...

Every resto starts with the first bolt. Mine happened to be the rear propshaft UJ. I want to keep things as mobile as possible and the clunk from the rear had to go. All that rust had to go and the polywheel cleaned it up a treat. All the bits...

The TD5 does indeed have an ECU. But to be fair, most vehicles have for the best part of 40+ years. Even some 300Tdi’s and the V8’s had ECU’s way before the Td5. I really wouldn’t let this put you off. All you need is a diagnostic tool in your...

100 % it's a 1.6 ratio box. It's on an old 51A lt77. Again I belive a military suffix with shorter fist and second I have read. It's down to its chassis just now (well has been for some time as works got in the way) but its the ideal time to do...

Ok it won’t strain the engine as such. My brother has a 1989 Ninety. It was a 2.5TD, now sporting a 200Tdi with some tweaks. He originally had the 1.4 in and much like you, is screamed at higher speeds. But it would do more like 70mph. He now...

The micro switches can be replaced. The originals are in a block of three which cannot be obtained so I used three separate switches held in place with longs screws. It's a fiddly job getting the position just right. Once perfect, I filled the...

    300bhp/ton replied to the thread 1.6 lt230.
This all depends what you want really. There are also lots of factors at play here. 1. Are you sure it really is a 1.6? Many may have been changed long ago. 2. Where does your gearbox come from? Early LT-77's have shorter gearing than latter...

It should stay sorted, turn off EKA as well and it will always operate on just the key if needed to. Turning off the immobiliser in actual fact makes mobilisation automatic, no FOB code or EKA code required.

Yes,1999 will have the passive coil.
  • 300bhp/ton
MY99 you should be well inside passive sync as standard. Passive coil function is mentioned in the 1996 (5th Ed) electrical troubleshooting manual onwards.... although of course with LR anything is possible! Mines a MY98, and I'm pretty sure my...
