    petrol in diesel Disco 4

When I gave my D2 a "splash" of about 4 litres, Shell tech. services said more than 2% petrol and you will blow the donk. Winjeel. D2, D4SE

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

I have done about 200K/kms on non-genuine and had no problems with the brakes or the 3M's. As to the security nut, they get mangled by people using rattle guns when refitting a wheel. There is enough meat on the nut to engage it with a good Stilson spanner, at least to undo it. Stilsons are not...

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

Changing the pads is straight forward, when you pull up the caliper dont let the ABS wire come under tension. Remember there are twin pistons on the front and you need to depress them both simultaneously, depress one only and the other will pop out. To remove the disc you need a 19mm socket and...

    TD5 stops after 2 seconds

If there is fuel, is it possible that the security system is playing a role. Consider locking the vehicle then gaining entry by using the key combination and not the fob. You need to start the engine within 30 seconds of entry before it imobilizes again. Winjeel

    Removing fuel from tank

I added petrol so could not blame wife. Shell told me more than 2% petrol was fatal to engine. I removed the offending material by disconnecting the outlet pipe at the fuel filter, fitted a temporary line to a drum and by turned on the ignition switch without turning the engine. Repeat this...

    TD5 Turbo trouble

Mine is a '99 TD5 Auto, with 275k/kms on the dial. It is fitted with LPG which supplements the diesel with added power and improved economy. I recently noticed a reduction in power, most notable in cruise control as it changed down earlier, but overall not the power I was used to and reduced...

three amigos,'take a look might help..'

Stand by, I got the thumbnails to print. Thanks. Also got the roverparts site, it is headed "Atlantic British" on the list of sites on Google. Excellent site. Great price for shuttle kit. Winjeel

three amigos,'take a look might help..'

Very useful info Kingcarlos. Any chance that the thumbnails can be put up in a form that can be downloaded from this site. I tried but no joy. Tried the 'roverparts' site but ended up lost amongst the many. Winjeel

    another td5 gearbox problem

Do you have the correct order of events? Is the pipe being disconnected followed by the lights and drive problem and not the other way around? I have had A/T pipe failure with results like yours, that is the pipe blew then the lights etc. The A/T pipes system is not the best bit of engineering...

    More anoying rattles

Thanks Pastmaster. It is an auto. To amplify the circumstances: it starts well, all firing and pulls well from cold. As I live on a farm, we travel lightly down the access road for 500metres before hitting the public road and the hill. As there is no subsequent hill before reaching normal temp...

    TD5 Gearbox

If it is an electrical loom problem, replacements are available from British Motor Imports, who bring Land Rover parts into Australia. Very reliable operation. Winjeel.

    More anoying rattles

My TD5 produces a rather loud vibration at 2150rpm when cold and pulling up a short hill near home. I was told it is characteristic of the breed but my informant could not say what causes it. Once warm the vibration is not repeated. The vehicle has done 275k/kms and has exhibited this trait...

    TD5 Gearbox

Fellow Oz Disco driver, my suggestion is that there is something loose or chafed in the electricals. I have experienced a chafed wire loom to the auto gear box, with bad results. Before disembowelling the gear box get the loom checked for continuity. Winjeel

    Disco 2 Roto Filter

The filter can be heard running down more when it is fresh than later in its life. I have not felt vibration in the 275K/kms mine has done. Winjeel

    TD5 Auto Box

Experience tells me that the cheapest course is to fit a new loom entirely, available as an original part. My 1999 TD5 auto limped home in 3rd at 230,000km and the mechanic spent several thousand dollars of mine chasing the wires that had fatigued from vibration and shorted in the loom. ( and...

    Intermittent starter motor on TD5

I have read your web item, it is a masterly work; TD5 owners are indebted to you. It is inconceivable that Land Rover saw fit to build the engine with such dreadful inaccessibility to that nut. Thanks. Winjeel

    Intermittent starter motor on TD5

I have had similar experience, 6 months apart. Seems to be the solenoid at the starter motor. A tap with a piece of wood cured the problem. My attempts to get the starter motor off were not pleasant, the strategic location of the mount bolts make for much unhappiness. Winjeel
