High level stop lamp wiring - Defender 110 300TDi 1998

Not sure if it's correct (may have been bodged by previous owner), but mine just ducks through the two long slots, nothing clever about it: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTEyNVgxNTAw/z/lRIAAOxydgZTHvaM/$_35.JPG

Recommendations for Road Tyre / Supplier / Fitter (Oxon)

Diam. is smaller by 2mm, and by my calcs, that's a drop in <0.2mph... (235/85 = 805.9mm diam. 265/75 = 803.9mm diam.). When you consider the tolerances of the moulds being used to make the tyres or variability in tyre pressure, humidity, altitude, air pressure this doesn't make any difference...

    Clutch pedal issues

Could also be an internal leak in the master cylinder. Recently had the wiper seal go on mine. Check for DOT4 around the bell and footwell, may not be obvious... Alm.

Recommendations for Road Tyre / Supplier / Fitter (Oxon)

Cheers for replies. Was running on a combination of assorted 235/85/R16 ATs. I've ended up going for 265/75/R16 Insa Turbo Rangers (remoulds) - tread is a BFG AT rip-off, I've run with genuine BFG AT and MTs before so am aware how they handle on/off-road. Road noise is a little higher and...

Recommendations for Road Tyre / Supplier / Fitter (Oxon)

Time has come to renew the slightly perished tyres on the 110. As it's commuting work-horse I have to find decent ATs rather than MTs (unfortunately Simex Extreme Tracker triple blocks are not an option ;)). 1. Any recommendations for a decent 265/75/R16 AT for road use? Decent side walls for...

New Courtesy Lights & Headlining Renewal

Thanks. It goes on really well with the spray adhesive and it does soak in a bit so good coverage is key. I thought something like potato sacks would give a rural effect, but I didn't fancy the smell of earth in the cab. You can always buy the plain hessian, cut out cargo lettering stencils and...

New Courtesy Lights & Headlining Renewal

Edit: Some photos of the front and rear-sections having been re-covered in hessian, just the mid-section and the rear close-out (with new lights) to finish. Was thinking that I'd renew the tree-firs as a set is £3.50, and then use Araldite / hot glue to adhere large wooden buttons over the top...

    Shooting hatch

Masai do a shooting hatch: Shooting Hatch - Wide Opening Roof Window I reckon you're better off approaching a boat builder and seeing if you can get a second hand houdini hatch, least it'll be more likely to keep the water out... Alm.

New Courtesy Lights & Headlining Renewal

Thought I'd install some supplementary courtesy lights, as I'm slowly converting the 110 into a day-camper... having sound proofed and insulated the tub, tranny and bulkhead I figure roof could do with the same treatment. Here's how I did it - if you've found better ways to do stuff I'd really...

Best place to hold a spare wheel

Some sort of sensor measuring vehicle height from the front - I was told this by one of the toll operators, so it's second hand information at best. Alm.

Best place to hold a spare wheel

TOP TIP: If you drive a fender up the M6 Toll with a wheel on the bonnet you'll get charged as a van.

    Sound proofing (another thread)

Bankz that sounds v.promising! Let us know how you get on. Anyone the wiser about reducing the wind noise at speed -other than plugging the holes in my rusty bulkhead...? Alm.

D1 rattly/noisy engine when warmed up

Just make sure the tip of the tube makes solid contact, and doesn't rest on anything else. Few time I've been caught out like that leaving me scratching my head. Good Luck!!! Alm.

D1 rattly/noisy engine when warmed up

Not much help, BUT, in situations like this I find it's good to use a listening rod to locate the source of the vibration. Usually use the nearest bit of 1/8 tube I have around the workshop, should be easily discernible where it is loudest. Alm.

El Cheapo "sports" exhaust - opinions please?

Yep, that's where the gasket goes. Reason I paid a bit more for my mild steel one is because I wanted a flexi on the downpipe. Makes installation a hell of a lot easier, especially if if necessary to re-install particulate filter for MOT - this is an ongoing debate..! Yes mild steel...

El Cheapo "sports" exhaust - opinions please?

I recently fitted one of these, although it was from an ebay trader named Regisexhausts, link here: LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 300TDi COMPLETE DE-CAT SPORTS EXHAUST SYSTEM | eBay It's mild steel, and has 2 year warranty same as yours. The rubbers are wrong, so buy new if yours are crumbled. This...

    Timing belt,

Second that, 11 Nm is correct. No probs, hope it works for you as well as it did for me... would just say, be careful with the puller bolts, I wouldn't trust the 8.8 rating at that price! Alm.

    Timing belt,

Did this over the weekend. I'd suggest you print out a picture of the front cover and label the bolt holes, then do the same with the bolts as they are all different lengths. Personally, I had some major issues with removing crank pulley bolt. Tried the usual method: fuel solenoid disconnect and...

    Bicester-Bucks Laning

    Timing belt,

I'm doing the timing belt in a couple weeks time. Purchased this to help with the job. Was the cheapest and most comprehensive kit I could find. Don't like the idea of paying twice the cost of a new timing belt kit for just one of the tools required for the job! Also, slowly slowly catchee...
