    19j into a 2.8l petrol project

The bore and stroke of the 19j is the same as the 300tdi at 90.47mm and 97mm. This is because the block is virtually identical.

    bleeding p/steering

It is usually self bleeding. Just turn the wheel from lock to lock with the engine running a few times and the air will be pushed out as the fluid circulates and will vent out of the little hole in the reservoir cap.

    P38A Aaaarrrggghh!

Try with a new battery. Sometimes when an older battery goes completely flat it becomes useless. Have you checked what voltage you are getting off the battery? The other problem is that if one of the plates in the battery has become oxidised or damaged, you can see a healthy voltage but not...

    Military 109

WTF is going on with that supposed 2A on that list? Leaf sprung chassis on parabolics with mercedes brakes. 19J engine. Defender/110 gearbox and dash. **** knows what is from 1965 but that is dodgy as **** and he is asking nearly 5 grand for ito_O

    Military 109

I think it is something of a bitsa. There are definitely parts on that are typically military such as the spring hangers, extra chassis bracing, bodywork and switchgear. The reinforced axles were not fitted to all military 109's. The rear crossmember could well be a later replacement for a...

    Help needed

I had this with my old 110 V8. I think I had a Friday afternoon special and at various times previous owners had tried to fix (bodge) various electrical faults. I got so tired of trying to trace faults in a wiring loom that bore no resemblance to the factory wiring diagram that I ended up...

It sounds like you have an earth wire come loose somewhere causing a short.

You don't need an earth strap that long. Shorter is better as a longer cable means more resistance and a bigger voltage and current drop. Just use the shortest one that will work.

Those cables don't look great. It is important that your wiring is in as good condition as possible. Corroded and poorly connected wiring is one of the most common causes of electrical problems. This may be the ideal time to renew some of your ignition wiring, particularly as this is the wiring...

    Starting 2a petrol

If you do try starting it with the handle, be careful. I had to do it several times with my series III, if you get it wrong it hurts. Make sure your ignition timing is correct, if it is too far advanced, you will get kickback. When holding the handle, do not wrap your thumb around the handle...
