Series 3 HELP. My shocks seem too short!!

Have a look in the book - you need to preload the axle to compress the springs before tightening up the bush pins. The preload distances are measured from the axle to the chassis.

    keeps draining battery

Unplug the alternator and see if the drain stops - faulty diodes can flatten your battery, it's an easyish fix. Otherwise it's chasing the drain through the wiring with a multimeter.

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Duff HT lead breaking down, coil breaking down, play in the rotor shaft, condenser breaking down. If changing the condenser coil and leads doesn't help I'd go for broke and fit an electric dizzy or an electric sparks kit if your dizzy is in good nick.

    Clicking Sarter Solinoid

Battery knackered? Some battery voltages with the ignition off and with the solenoid clicking would be useful. But check all the lives and earths. The clicking is usually caused by the voltage across the solenoid coil disappearing when the starter motor is switched on - as a result of a duff...

    Advice needed for long journey!

The magic ingredient is time. Older vehicles usually run all day if they're not pushed too hard. 45 on A roads is fine, trying to do a couple of hours at 60/70 on a motorway may be pushing your luck. Last couple of long trips I made I only used motorways for short bursts to avoid places (like...

Steering box leak - and cracking!!

It should have EP90 in it but there's often a lot of grease used on assembly to keep the balls in place. Ball races, bush and seals are easily changed, the worm, nut and output shaft are a bit more difficult to obtain. The hard bit is getting the box out and in again.

    Zenith carb replacement

Was it working reasonably well before you rebuilt the carb? If so, have you put it back together correctly? Is the big o ring seal seated correctly? I'm not sure if it's possible, but could the jets be correct?

    Get yer top off!

Used to run with the roof off in the summer. It's only a handful of bolts to take it off - about an hour's work if you're slow like me. I made a tailgate out of two bits of speedframe (1" square steel tube), some old pallet wood and two door bolts!

1st a bang, then a puff of smoke.... loss of power and now wont start.

As above or timing chain slipped a couple of sprockets? (happened to me once, idler sprocket broke up) Electric dizzy failed? First stop on the diagnostics list would be, is there a spark? Then, is it happening at the right time? then look at the fuel system.

1980 S3, Lucas 45D dizzy, points keep melting

The only thing I can think that would do this would be if the live was connected directly to the points and not via the coil. You should only have two wires on the coil, white to the + terminal and black/white to the -.
