    Classic landrover magazine

I subscribe to both but prefer CLR. LRM has printed this month's copy on newspaper, rather than the usual better quality paper and for this reason I'm cancelling my subscription to them. CLR has become better and better since it started - I just wished they did a column like Norfolk Garage which...

Series III Recovery, been stood for 10 years.

Looks a nice honest Land Rover that's fallen into capable hands. Don't see too many LWB models getting refurbished and I have a feeling that there will be good money in these in a few years.

    Soft Top and Seat Belts

I changed mine to a soft top (full tilt) last year. Like yourself, my seatbelts top mount were attached to a bracket on the hard top. After much deliberation, I fitted the Exmoor trim seatbelt bar. Straight forward to fit. The belt reels remain fixed to the mid bulkhead like they were...

    Bulkhead doesnt fit!!!!!

It's seemingly not unusual to need to make the bulkhead fit by using several washers as spacers and the use of ratchet straps. I hope you get her on the road soon and, most importantly, enjoy her.

    Let’s play find the coolant!

I don't suppose there could be any strategically placed wrags still in the air intake anywhere from when you lifted the head?

Series 3 Over drive, out with the Fairies or going roaming?

Fitted a Roamerdrive almost a couple of years ago now. Whilst I don't drive lots of miles per year it has still totally transformed the experience. Once warmed up I tend to leave the overdrive constantly engaged on many journeys as you can use the Roamerdrive in 1st and 2nd too. It makes urban...

    Lamp guards?

I've got front lamp guards. I like the look of them but I've holed a couple of sleeves by simply walking by them and brushing by. The edges are quite sharp. I frequently get caught on them, especially when working on it.

    Series 1 2.25 diesel into a series 1

Come across quite a few S1s with 2.25 engines fitted at meets / shows etc. My spare 2.25d came out of a S1 but It had already been removed so I'm not familiar with the conversion. The one that my engine was originally fitted to also had power steering from a P38.

Picking my Series 3 up tomorrow.

Exciting times! You'll probably convince yourself on the drive back that you've bought a dog. You probably genuinely won't have though, it's just that even at best they all drive like a dog (at least compared to anything else manufactured after 1983) :) They don't really compare to anything...

    Absolutely brilliant

I suspect using a slightly thinner oil in the winter months might help. 20w/50 is probably quite thick at -5

The S3 Beach Bus, and so it begins......

Is it the blower that's not working? Don't blame you not working on it in these temps. I'm sure it can wait a week or two until a sunny spring day appears.

large series wheel size help please?

I think it also depends what engine you have. I have 7.50 R16 tyres on LWB size rims. I wouldn't want to go any bigger with them powered by a 2.25d. With a more powerful engine you could potentially go bigger but in my humble opinion I think they look wrong on a short wheel base Series Landy...

    Series 2 Headlamp surrounds

After November 1980 the 4 cylinder Series 3 Land Rovers had silver coloured headlamp surrounds. Before this date they were all body coloured. You should be able to unscrew and slide the surrounds out without removing the wire grills.

    The age old request

Hi Rich, Welcome! Whilst I can't answer your question, if you're from Wickham in Hampshire, you could try contacting F&R Commercials. Despite the name he specializes in Land Rovers and does lots of engine conversions, rechassis etc. https://www.fandrcommercials.co.uk

    Bad knock under load

It's a Land Rover. You should pray before further investigation. The correct course of action should be church Sunday morning, spannering Sunday afternoon, revising the workshop manual Sunday evening.

    Busted half shaft

Mine should have the later shafts but has been changed to the earlier 10 spline at some point. The front are the correct 24 spline though. I guess you are having to change to the late type wheel bearings too to match the shaft.

    Busted half shaft

I thought the diff end of the 24 spline shafts was exactly the same as the 10 and therefore the diff is the same. I take it that it’s not just the drive flange end that’s different?

    Bad knock under load

It sounds from the vid clip almost like an induction related noise. It doesn't appear steadily progressive with load like a mechanical issue. I wonder if it could be electrical related?

Ball Joints for a series 3

Check they are the same as you take off. Some Are threaded all the way to the end and the clamp cannot tighten on to the threads which can result in something nasty. Some are shouldered.
