[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]so i was recently told by someone on here that the plate surrounding my headlamps should be the same colour as the body. At some point someone point a series 3 grille on her and made the headlamps look series 3 too.

So the question is, how difficult is it to take out these headlamp surrounds to paint? The previous owner was a total babe and gave me all required paint.

Will I have to take off the wing? Or will they unscrew once the guards are off? My Landy is at the farm atm and I’ve been abroad so can’t look right now.

Any advice?

4 screws and they are off. Your head lamp surrounds will have been unpainted from new but its up to you.:)

Really? Every image i see of a 2a with wing headlamps has them the same colour as the body. Thanks though, good to know it's an easy quick job.

As said they are very easy to remove. If you end up painting them make sure you use a good etch primer first. Without that painting aluminium does not last long.

Duly noted. Okay thanks. I’ve got a few days off next week so I’ll head to the hardware shop and get on it. I might have some primer in the shed.

I'm after one aswell getting hard to find now and at stupid money to :)
Yes! I’ve seen them at £720 on eBay for originals. I’ve got the blueprints and if worse comes to worst I’ll get one manufactured for cheap. Trying to get Newbury off work so I can hunt around there for one and a new Petrol tank.

After November 1980 the 4 cylinder Series 3 Land Rovers had silver coloured headlamp surrounds. Before this date they were all body coloured. You should be able to unscrew and slide the surrounds out without removing the wire grills.

I always think they look better painted to match the colour of the vehicle but each to there own I suppose ;)
They most definitely do. That's why i'm going to do it. Ideally wednesday after my work week is over, if i can find the time to drive to where i've left it, that and find the paint in the shed.
