    New member with a Defender 90 TD5

Looks lovely! I was in the same position. For security I chose to fit a tracker (Rewire Security £60 off eBay + 1pmobile SIM) - very cheap and there's a great iPhone app that texts you everytime the ignition is turned on or off and maps to show where your Landy is and where it's been. Also...

SOLVED: TD5 starting probs (at whits end)

I've only had trouble starting my TD5 for 2 reasons 1. Old fuel filter - I was amazed at the impact replacing it had (but I'm sure you've done that) 2. Crank sensor loose connection - Its the really important one - if that's not working you are going nowhere (you've ordered that)

    Defender 90 Bumper Bolts

    That’s a brilliant idea

    Defender 90 Bumper Bolts

The most recent? ...... hit black ice Sunday morning and ended up in a ditch with a twisted front end . More usually though I like to take the bumper off for annual chassis wash through and waxoyl treatment etc. With a big winch on the bumper you can’t even get the grill off without removing the...

    Defender 90 Bumper Bolts

Is it just me that finds bumper bolts a pain? I replaced sheared off bolts some time again with YRMs? nice stainless bolts and threaded plate which makes things a bit easier but even so, trying to locate them in the base plate blind (no underside access), whilst keeping a heavy winch and bumper...

    Loss of power TD5

Really good video on how to check your MAF sensor here. Recommend subscribing to this guys 'Vehicle Repair Toolbox videos' YouTube Channel (Also 5 cylinder symphony) - he's excellent!

    Defender door

I've done loads of things to my Landy over the years - some very complex, some expensive, some cheap, some effective, some less so, but ………… I have NEVER manged to get the doors to close properly when it's cold. My whole family have had to evolve to develop 'the technique' ……. it's a hard pull...

How to do the Clutch Spring Mod

Thanks Bankz5152 for the instruction and I reckon bigfasti's tip saved me a load of time, a great deal of swearing, and shredded finders. I've just done this taking about 30 minutes in all. The difference to my TD5 Defender 2002 is astonishing - It's much lighter on the left leg meaning all that...

Seats in the rear of 90

I put x4 nice high back Exmoor side facing seats in mine. Fortunately I already had the seat belt bar in. I put in Exmoor's retractable lap belts. They are a tidy solution and the seats are very good - folding up to keep the cargo space clear but …. ever 30 miles the passengers in the back will...

    DAB Radios

I put a Pure Highway DAB / FM / CD / BT phone unit into my defender. I’m not in the best DAB reception area but when I am it works well. I could not get window aerials to work with it so installed a powered combined DAB / FM aerial to replace the one on the wing. It’s a short aerial and is...

    Central locking

I did it like this in my TD5 - don't know if you have the same alarm type (10AS) in yours. I wasn't easy, but has work for a good few years now. It's in an earlier post with the photos of all of the bits required.

Webasto type Air Parking Heater Installation - any good pictures to copy?

OK thanks - always assumed silencers were for gases exiting a pipe, not entering

Webasto type Air Parking Heater Installation - any good pictures to copy?

Has anyone done a really good Diesel Air Heater installation in a Defender 90 TD5? I've just bought one. 1. Needs a 10cm hole cut in the floor 2. Can be noisy I've seen on this site one mounted behind the front seats. The preferred place seems to be squeezing alongside the battery under the...

    Rear wiper short

I’ve just remembered a good test to try. Where the wire from the switch enters the relay in the back door (was it a green/black wire?) pull that off and short the relay post to the vehicle frame (-). The wiper should start working if everything ok on the (+) side of the wiring (need ignition...

    Rear wiper short

[Defender TD5 90 2002 Experience] Whilst cutting out the rear cross member for a replacement I accidentally nicked with my angle grinder one of the loom sets going through the hole in the chassis. I thought I'd repaired them well enough but once back on the road found the rear wiper was out of...

Ooooops, should have done this earlier clearly!

No additional physical security, but it does have a tracker. It is a worry - I’ll scour these threads for some advice - thinking ‘pedal lock’? Steering lock? Both?

Ooooops, should have done this earlier clearly!

Wow, what a great welcome - here are the promised photos of 'metal'. Loads done to it by previous (hero) owner and me. Particularly fond of the overhead console that gets the radio out of the way meaning dash board wiring is much easier, and there's good overhead space for maps etc. and gives...

Ooooops, should have done this earlier clearly!

Hello, apologies for not introducing myself last year - didn't realise the etiquette! I'm a big user of the advice on this forum and very grateful for it too. I have a 2002 Defender 90 TD5 which I've had for I suppose 5 years now. It's my daily drive currently and believe it or not everything...
