Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Did they put an MLS on? If so that's your problem right there. Don't go with an MLS again on that engine unless you're going to shim the liner.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Swapped out the oil in the IRD: Surprisingly little swarf in it, it had a few fine bits on the sump plug but nothing major. Certainly not enough to worry me. The rear brakes kept locking while cold so I decided to change them out: Plenty of meat still left on them, but I changed them just...

Freelander 1 Tailgate window drops, but not enough.

Hmm, mine does this too, the glass drops but ONLY just enough to open the door. You have to physically flex the rear window to get the door to shut cleanly - bend it just enough to clear the top. Exactly the same symptoms too, it all works perfectly otherwise.

I do find it's a ridiculous size, nothing fits in it other than my phone...

    Freelander V6 Overheating

Hmm, sorry I retract my statement then, there's some confusing language knocking about - I thought that there was a drain plug on the front and the back of the engine block!

    Freelander V6 Overheating

You say you have no idea about the bleed screw on the back of the engine, if youve only used one bleed screw on the engine that's probably what your problem is then, there are TWO bleed bolts on the V6, one on the front of the block and one on the back. My guess is that you've been running with...

    Freelander V6 Overheating

Sorry, this is where I'm suddenly confused, do you have a 1.8 K series or a 2.5?
  9. B34R

    Freelander V6 Overheating

Silly question, but have you bled BOTH engine bleed screws? You used a singular when you said engine bleed screw and on the v6 I believe there is one on the front bank AND one on the rear bank?

    Freelander 1 oil additive.

While most of these are snake oil, zx stuff contains something that they use to harden drills I believe? Now in day to day driving this means that you won't notice anything because it requires metal on metal contact to bond iirc. But, if you've got something scraping/clattering away because its...

    Little help needed

On the subject of starter motors - something we found on the old Volkswagen 16v diesels (BKD and above) - past a certain euro-b***ocks level they had start conditions set. As they're not allowed to exceed certain emissions during startup. This meant that when the starter motor was getting a...

    DIY VCU service

So I've just taken it out and thrashed it round the roundabout circuit for an hour then brought it back and done the OWU test. Tried very had to make it wheelspin on wet tarmac/leaves/etc and it just wouldn't do it so the VCU is transmitting/locking as expected. No vibration at 70mph so my...

    DIY VCU service

We've been out all Saturday so far so I'm itching to go take it for a drive in a minute and see what's what. Any remaining brake cleaner should have boiled off in the final stage - it was open to atmosphere for the last three days. The stuff that initially flooded out had returned to its usual...

    DIY VCU service

So, it's back on the car now - what did I do? When a good proportion of the fluid was out I filled it with brake cleaner, left it overnight and then inverted it, left it for a weekend. So much fluid came out, it was everywhere. I then drilled both holes out to 8.5mm and tapped them to M10...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Jaws theme tune time... Propshaft is back on because I'm bored of WORLD ENDING UNDERSTEER. Refurbed the VCU with new fluid, but haven't had a moment to take it out yet and make sure it's driving okay.

    Freelander TD4 2006

Sorry, but I think that's bulls**t. These engines are pretty robust, get a second opinion! It would have to have oil starved to get a massive loss of compression and there'd be a lot of things giving you a warning sign first - the oil can light would pop up on the dash for a start.

Brake shoes, How long do they last?

Funny you brought this up, I think mine have just gone at 80k First set off in a morning or after work I'm getting a *screeee* and then I end up faceplanting the steering wheel. Will have to get the bits on order.

Have I made a costly mistake?

Is the oil coming from the belts end of the engine? If so it may not be oil, mine was doing this for ages, couldn't catch the bastard in the act until I realised it was water running down the block and picking crap up as it went! Might be a water leak...
