    Timing issue

By way of confirmation, remove the rocker cover and check the rocker/valve position on cylinder number one when you think the timing marks are indicating TDC, both valves should be closed on the rise of the piston. Further confirmation can be had by removing the injector from cylinder number one...

Disco 1 300 tdi Injector issue?

The timing may have skipped a tooth or two on the timing belt. It happens, friend of mine had it occur in his 300Tdi, engine would still start and run but limited rpm and little power. Check the valve and injection pump timing before going any further toward removing the head, you might only...

    Should this noise be there?

Check the steel sleeved rubber bushes on the ends of the Panhard rod, it's not unusual for the securing bolts that pass through the rod ends that secure the top to the chassis and the bottom end to the front axle to loose their "pinch" on the steel bush within the rubber, the bush and bolt wear...

    300tdi disco 1 cutting out

Could have an intermittent electrical supply problem to the fuel cut-off solenoid, try a "hot wire" direct from battery positive to the solenoid on back of the injection pump as a test. I have had such an issue with my first 300tdi, it was just the female spade connector on the end of the wire...

Reckon it might be just held on with double sided tape or something like Sikaflex.

Replaced Inj Pump Throttle Bush..... And now my pumps all over the place!

You'll possibly find the linkage rod has not engaged the governor toggle properly, it can be difficult to get the top cover on the pump if you don't back off the maximum fuel screw, to do that and maintain the proper setting simply just slightly undo the max fuel screw locknut then back out the...

    Classic transmission problem/s

@jamesmartin is the man , I think he worked a while for a company who did a lot of Landy transmission work especially the VCU type. I remember now, that VM powered RRC of yours is a nice unit and original, be a shame to fiddle with it and spoil originality, VC replacement is a good option...

    Classic transmission problem/s

Maybe the replacement part is not expensive and obtainable over your side but we couldn't have got one even if we had the money, here parts for those models are like rocking horse do do. Didn't find it too hard to change the transfer cases, just dropped off the VC transfer case under the floor...

    Classic transmission problem/s

Yes, as said already continuing to drive on hard surface in the seized condition, (full time 4wd), will deffo break a diff or axle. What we did with my mates, (ex RRC '88 VM + viscous LT77 in an '85 County) we fitted a std transfer box with centre diff lock, easy, and because we had one off an...

Disco 2 Heavy steering at low speed after replacing headlight switch

I think you'll find its called a "slipring" it conducts electricity between a static and movable/rotatable point. And thanks for the feedback on the problem.

Drag arm ball joint no more....

Standard height or lifted? The problem should have become apparent long before the falling out. I have had the same thing happen on an old workshop Hilux that was pretty flogged, certainly makes for an interesting driving experience at 100kph on a bad dirt road, sh1ts were certainly trumps that day.

Would I be silly to take carpets out?

I cut my current Disco's just a little way up the sides of the tranny tunnel, left the bits over the rear wheel arches and just removed all the floor carpets and insulation, so the noise isn't too bad, don't have the under bonnet insulation either, it's ok, not Rolls Royce silent but being a...

    Disco 1 Rear seat rattle

They all do that, my D1has done it since i bought it 8 year ago and the D1 I had before that one used to rattle the LHR seat back. Only time it doesn't rattle is when it's being sat in or in the down flat position which is how I always leave it and use it as a truck.

Would I be silly to take carpets out?

I wouldn't do this to a nice tidy Disco but I took all the carpets out of my previous Tdi, used odourless fish oil to treat the floors then just put a couple of small mats on the floor to wipe feet on and to save constantly rubbing the coating of fish oil through. Didn't seem to make a lot of...
