All the trouble you are having is why I changed my drop arm to a disco one! I now only replace standard ball joints on the drag link. A lot easier job! Once you have the original drop arm off or course!

I would put new standard springs in and put helper springs inside those only come into use when heavy loaded and do not effect ride search on this forum
