Afternoon all!
Hope you are well, have googled and searched this forum and tons of stuff have come up with dodgy wiring and charging etc re Alternators. I have tested my earths, and my battery and my belt is tight so I am pretty sure its the Alternator. The dash light wont go off and meter at the battery outputs about 11v if lucky.
So before I but a new one, what is the general consensus on a good one?
Make? amps? etc?
All Makes, ****part, Stock LR , Lucas?

I believe the standard 1993 110 200tdi was a 45 amp. The attached photo says 65 amps but I cant make out the rest! I don't have loads of winches or lights and the fender is pretty standard.
What do you suggest
Thanks in advance as always :) IMG_1346.JPG

One advantage of going for one of the big manufacturers LUCAS Etc is the ease of getting spares in the future, (Diode packs / Regulators / Brushes etc). I know its looking on the dark side of things but if the replacement goes tits up then you have more chance of fixing it cheaper by buying the spares than buying a whole new alternator if it is a no-name replacement item.

I think you will find a standard Alternator is 60 amp. 65 for a defender with Air Conditioning.
I would go for a Lucas one for the same reasons as above.

I got a 100amp alternator from ebay. You have to changed the serpentine belt pully to the v-belt style pully. You can take the old one off with an impact driver and put it on the 100amp one. Make sure to try and find the best V-Belt you can for it as its a little stiffer to turn and can shred the v-belt's teeth but thankfully they aren't too hard to change.

I have a HID kit and a few other things that made me upgrade though but if you have none of that the standard should be fine :)

As long as its 12v (If its a standard Defender, military ones use the 24v). There are even some that fit like the one off the Ford Scorpio is a direct fit I believe if you find one on a scrapyard.

Ebay A127 and you will have loads to look at.
I wouldnt avoid any particular make, so long as its works its good enough.
Have you got a removable brush pack on the back? 3 screws and its out, the brushes do wear out pretty quickly on theses, especially if used off road

Thanks, but are you talking about a 300TDI? mine is a 200tdi so different pulley setup

Good call...I will check this 1st !

Nope, 200tdi. You have to take the v-belt pully off your knackered 200tdi unit and bolt it onto the 100amp alternator (Getting rid of the 300tdi serpentine belt style pully). Transfer over whatever washers are on your knackered 200tdi alternator onto the 100amp alternator in the same position, just make sure the belt is aligned ok! :)
