    It's not just as simple as that, my suspicion is, that as it is 1987, it was probably one of the 2.5's petrol or diesel, it could have been a V8 I guess but then it would not have had the LT77 gearbox but I guess it could have been changed too! So lets assume it was a 2.5 engine with an LT77...

    I don't think they did, I think it was intended. I suspect their plan was a 300tdi the earlier further back position. What length of bell-housing on the LT77? If it was planned it would be a shorty. The LT77 behind a 300tdi is not a great idea.

    Right enough, I was forgetting that whole aim of this exercise was to extract the diff, not the hub assembly, however, I suspect a gasket will be needed - I've never reused a gasket on a mating like this.

    I think they measure the belts on the contact surface diameter so with the lip 52mm would be the 49mm yeah (which is good as your alt will spin faster at idle).

    To save a lot of disassembling, just unbolt the swivel from the end of the axle case and pull the whole lot out. If your bolts are rusty and knackered don't bother. It is heavy to do it like this but it saves a lot of time if the bolts comply. Tip, pre-soak them in penetrating oil for a few days...
