    Lift pump woes

The clear pipe idea is good (and the cam position) I will fiddle some more

    Lift pump woes

Ok, so more ‘lack of progress’ 1 I made myself a solenoid removal spanner - took a while to work that one out! 2 I’ve swapped the solenoid over with another that I know (was) working 3 It clicks when 12v applied (but so did the other so no guarantees) 4 cranked the engine no start, no fuel...

    Lift pump woes

Right! I’m seeing obvious benefits in a spare solenoid - I can also swap the one over in my ‘spare rip’

    Lift pump woes

It ran perfectly previously, the pump has sat on the bench while I stripped and rebuilt the engine- pipe sucking is next on my list. I will take out the solenoid and have a look. Pretty sure the pipes are routed correctly as they ‘kind of’ fell back into place when I dropped the engine back in-...

    Lift pump woes

Definitely 12v there. feeding diesel in to get a response may be a good call. I was originally hoping it was just air in the system and opening every pipe union would slowly flush it out but that does not appear to be occurring.

    Lift pump woes

Ahh, ok something I did not know. So it is possible it’s an injector pump problem, or both, there is 12 v to the solenoid on the injector. Presumably the injector pump is mechanical and even if (for the sake of argument) I had refitted it incorrectly timed(which I don’t believe to be the case)...

    Lift pump woes

Yes, I will have look under to see if anything got trapped during the refit

    Stripped thread…

So I’m not hearing anything to stress me out so I’m thinking tapping in an oversize stud sounds like the answer. Thanks fo the responses

    Stripped thread…

…..and another woe In bolting the bell housing back to the engine on of the studs has pulled out. Any advice on how to address without pulling the whole engine out again. It is fortunately one of the more accessible ones but surprisingly this is not something I’ve had to deal with so would...

    Lift pump woes

Hi all, Well I thought I was all good to go with my newly rebuilt 200tdi engine (that has taken me way too long to do) Anyway everything is back together and she won’t start. I have traced this back - I think to the lift pump, although I started back from injectors, cut-off solenoid, fuel...

    Back axle confusion

Hi all, I have a 1987 Land Rover 110 200tdi I had a brake fluid leak from one of my rear wheels so ordered new wheel cylinder, shoes and springs. I was 66% successful with the springs and cylinder fitting perfectly but the shoes were too narrow/small. I got the parts from Rimmer Brothers - the...

    Dead gearbox

I like the idea of rebuilding it, but I do not want it off the road too long and my garage is full of another project at the moment which means working outside on the driveway - which does not appeal at the mo. Last gearbox I rebuilt was a '67 MG midget back in around 1982 - but its probably...

    Dead gearbox

Morning all, I have just returned from a 5 hour ordeal with my beloved 110 on the back of a recovery truck :( Just passing Reading eastbound on the M4 at 0630 when the was a bit of a bang from underneath, I started to slow down not sure if I'd hit something and then there were a huge number of...

    Cylinder Head Bolts

OK,to answer my own question I went out and got a deep impact socket and tried again. It was a bit scary as I suspect that the first three bolts were way over torque but they did come loose. The remaining 15 were all easy to undo - much ado about nothing..

    Cylinder Head Bolts

Hi all, Another inane question I'm afraid.... I'm working my way into the engine to get at a blown head gasket and all that is (currently) left between me and the head being removed are the cylinder head bolts. I have so far managed to snap my 19mm standard socket, and have been nervous about my...

    Hello all

Hmmm not sure mine is a likely target for a thief - it's not in the "Urban Assault Vehicle" class more "Assaulted by hedgerows" We have been assigned our first mission - have to drive to Heathrow T5 at 04:30 on Friday to collect Mother-in-law and her partner coming over from the states. It...

    Hello all

I've been lurking here for a number of months reading and learning from the wealth of experience that you have all shared. I finally took the plunge and purchased a 1987 110 CSW that has been converted to 200TDi. The Chassis on her is excellent, only one tiny patch of welding right...
